I don't know much about getting the best of both worlds in the same install, I'd be very hesitant to say that, but the Icon definitely has the potential to either give reference level SQ or competition SPL depending on the enclosure in which it's placed.

Sounds like you do want SPL... The SSD sounds fine for what you're looking for.

You're older than me I can name practical reasons for keeping things stock, can you name a practical reason for going with larger wheels than you currently have?
