  1. I plan on putting the box where the amps are (where the back seat once was) but will it make much difference in performance because after setting these gains I really feel like I have zero bass where I once had a ton. Should I (dare I say) use my pair of Alpine type-r's in a sealed box or maybe a smaller ported box. I really would like some advice on this topic because I don't want to continue with a build that wont perform the way I imagined. Thanks guys.
  2. I'm pretty sure I did it all correctly on my o-scope and I can barely hear any bass so I may just end up doing a little clipping b/c I would rather clip a little here and there than to never hear my music the way i want.
  3. there is no boost at all from deck or amp
  4. yeah i do but projects are fun im running into problems setting my gains though and im pretty sure i have everything correct but if so im dissapointed because i have very little bass. i used two test tones (50 hz at 0 db and a 1khz at 0 db) to find the lower to start setting my gains and found out that at 45 my h/u clips so i set the volume to 44 and set my high gain until it clipped then changed cd to the 50hz track for my sub and dialed it in until it clipped then backed off until it stopped. After all that I play a song which once would destroy my S-10 on a crappy volfenhag amp with a pair of alpine type-r's attached to it. But in this car it's barely noticible I understand that I'll never clip but at the cost of heart stopping bass I feel sad. Is there something in there that I may have overlooked. I played the track at the full 44 and just not much there. I heard that tuning the amps should be done with a -10 db test tone is this true?
  5. and here i thought i would be the only one ;p but a hatch would be nicer than the vert its such a pain but getting equipment and box movement is a hella easy with the top down. it'll be cleaner within the next couple of weeks im just trying to figure out all my measurements and materials to make a cradle for the box and amp rack.
  6. its been along time since i was in college using that o-scope and i feel like a kid learning how to ride a bike again after a case of amnesia. god i hope im setting those gains right.
  7. yeah i suppose i didn't really cover that in the original post but as money allows I will be doing the big three all 0 gauge and a bigger alt with possibly a second batt or just a good size xs power up front b/c this set-up is about as far as i am going in this car due to room issues which is why i just bought a 1987 chevy caprice which has lots of trunk room. but just wondering how big alt and batt i would need i'm running the aq1200d and soon to be aq4x90?
  8. awesome stevemead was looking at my post YEAH!!!! i'm such a fan and would love to have his new distortion device but dug up the o-scope from way back to try my luck at tuning.
  9. So I had a little build in a s-10 blazer and sold the truck. My new build is my 1991 Mustang convertible not a lot of room in here but once i got rid of the back seats room was not as much a problem. Sorry if some pics are out of focus the camera kind of sucks. got the run of 0 gauge under the driver seat and once the aq 4x90 gets here i can make my bracket to set the aq's on and build a box for my box where the aq is sitting right now. custom bracket made of diamond plate holding the knu 200a fuse knu battery terminal for up to 3 0 gauge wires. Maybe one day! the optima and 0 gauge knu the 5 1/4 alpines the stock location for some 5x7's but i f'ed up and bought 6x9's where the 3.5's were but where the tweeters will be placed. who needs a passenger seat a little equipment the aq1200d with an o-scope trying to figure out the gain yup some 6x9's dangling the sx12 in a kerfed box
  10. so you guys are telling me i'm doing this correctly so far b/c i really don't want to sacrifice my sub for the greater good
  11. easy answer to that question this is just the first time for me using an o-scope for any car related tuning and i want to get it right
  12. btw when im doing this i have everything set to 0 on flat no bass boost on h/u and no bass boost on amp. is that proper or should bass boost be on somewhere?
  13. its not going into protect but my main question is that if it is at 53 and i touch the gain barely and it goes into clipping then does that mean that if i want to really play my bass all out i need to be at 53
  14. It's been a while since I've used my o-scope and I've read alot on how to set the amp gains but while i've been trying to see the clipping I've had some problems being able see where clipping begins on the h/u. From what i seen it was at 53 on an alpine deh-4000ub as i was setting the gain i barely touched the gain knob and it was in clipping and i dont want to have my h/u at 53 just to get bass. im using a bk precision 2120. i'm running a re -sx 12 in a 35hz box connected to an AQ1200d. can i get some suggestions on the way to set these properly fellas?
  15. yeah shizz is always good for some input and believe me i wasn't yelling at him i was just stating what was happening shizz isn't one to yell at hes to helpful.
  16. it is very important but yeah i wasn't under the impression that it was opposite day in the AQ factory when they thought up the idea for the gain settings. its tuned to 35hz
  17. ok so yeah this thing is moving a helluva lot now too bad i took it out of the box to test it and in the process broke a ring terminal. thanks shizz. now how should i go about fine tuning this thing
  18. little problem with the second part is that the remote gain knob doesn't work
  19. .50 v on a good bass hit on almost full volume is getting to the speaker
  20. the speaker output is minimal to say the least but im not getting a reading on the rca's for some reason. the gain goes from .15 to 5v on this amp and its on 5v.
  21. when checking the rca's should i have to unplug them to check or whats up because i put the meter on the a few different ways and got a low volt reading. im sure the rca's are good and they are for sure connected because i have my h/u sitting out so i can test it. any solution?
  22. it just caught me by surprise to know i have a great amp and it not work. and i wouldn't blow up on these guys michael has been great helping me out just mad that I get the crap of thousands that have been used. like it said there is some sound now not much and i checked the power and i have 12v in. the remote to the amp (the little bass knob) not the remote turn on.
  23. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-i3DJo0Zfhlz/p_130DEHP4UB/Pioneer-DEH-P4000UB.html?tab=detailed_info i have a multimeter and i'll check it i checked it earlier today but i'll give it another shot. i have messed with a few settings and now i have a little sound at the maximum volume.
  24. So today I wire my 0 gauge power to my distro block to wire my amp my amp shows power, the remote does not show anything and for a kick i have no power to my sub. I've tried several subs now and nothing happens. I've tried every possible wiring scheme and still absolutely nothing. i am so pissed at AQ unless there is some secret setting in my pioneer I forgot to change that will unleash the power I think I got a bad amp. Is there anything that I may be forgetting or any tips anyone could give to keep me from blowing up on AQ? ;( it's an aq1200d that i'm dealing with and its wired to a RE SX12
