  1. Where in NY are you at? I'm in CNY, about an hour from 'Cuse.
  2. Figure a 12" x 12" x 6" box, and make it bigger to account for porting....... as a center console, way up front under the dash..... sure, why not? But sealing off that much space inside a door? Not likely.....
  3. Any new developments? How's it coming?
  4. The primary issue I see is what frequency range does the Pioneer HU send through the front and/or rear outputs? If the 3sixty.2 doesn't receive any of the lower frequencies, how can it send the proper signal to the sub amp? I'm doing something similar with my JVC HU: front outputs go to my Kenwood 6042EQ, rear outputs are set to subwoofer low-pass at 120hz and down to a small mono amp, pushing a pair of 10's in my center console, works very well to anchor the front stage. The Kenwood's front and rear outputs are to a 4-channel amp (w/ a HP crossover @ 100 hz) driving my front and rear speakers, while the subwoofer output runs to my larger sub amp (crossover @ 50Hz), pushing my 15's in the rear. I have independent control of both the 10's and the 15's this way.
  5. Me too..... seems as if most people think Hifonics stuff is way OVERrated.
  6. Maybe he's thinking about a rather large pole vent.......?
  7. Are you looking for maximum volume, or maximum SQ? I'd be willing to bet that (2) 8" subs in that size ported enclosure would be exceptional.
  8. I'm very happy with what I have now, far from overkill, plenty loud for my tastes. Just saw them, looking to possibly play around with them a bit if the pricing was/is right.
  9. Exactly. I just forgot to mention that..... I use this to figure out my ports: Port calculations
  10. Hey, don't qualify me as a "rash"..... I just got an e-mail from one of my old reps, he's working for someone else now and wanted to give me some pricing, like $225 plus shipping for the QC15....
  11. This is why I've gotta ask, I don't know these things, and I don't want to toss a couple grand out the window....
  12. I know - just found the ZX750.1's for $225 plus shipping
  13. Where'd you find it? If you don't jump on it, I will....... immediately. Edit: after looking at the specs, that's not really that great.... my local parts supplier got me a dual post 825cca battery with a 110 ah capacity...... for $85. I was thinking the 3100 series.
  14. The local Circuit City is going out of business, they have all their car audio stuff marked down 40%. They've got a few Kicker ZX750.1 amps, originally $500..... and you math wizards have already figured out that they are now only $300. Rated at 750rms at 2 ohms, are they stable into a lower load? Like 1.6 (5 Dual 4ohm coil subs in series/parallel? 1.33 (3 4ohm subs in parallel)? Do they put out more than their rated power?
  15. But, the first question is: how big of an enclosure can you make, as far as gross volume? From there, subtract the driver displacement, then figure your port dimensions.
  16. Every post I've read talking about port tuning has had that figure in it, so I guess that's probably the best dimension to minimize any type of port turbulence and noise. Look at some of the install pics of walled-off vehicles, you'll see boxes with like 15 cubes, the port is something like 10" wide by 20" deep and 30-40" long! Or Bigger!
  17. I'd agree with that with most of the "monster" subs out there, but this claims to have 60mm of Xmax, and have a sensitivity of 101db.....
  18. Exactly what I DIDN'T want to hear...... I could get it for $285 plus shipping, and I'd probably get two if I did.... but for another couple hundred, I'd probably get a SAZ-3000......
  19. I know I'd start puking profusely if I ever saw the bill for the labor.
  20. You've really gotta know the enclosure volume before figuring out the port size. If you've got 12 cu ft gross, then you want a port with a cross-sectional area of between 144 and 192 sq in (12-16 sq in / cu ft). A single port 8" x 18" would be minimal (144 sq in), but it would only be 9" deep tuned to 34hz. That would decrease your volume by .96 cubes (if made of 3/4" mdf), dropping you to about 11 cu ft before driver displacement. I don't know the driver displacement of the 18" Fi's, but (just for instance) say they displace .25 cu ft each - now your box is 10.5 cu ft, and that same port would now be tuned to approximately 36.5hz. Port calculator Tune that same 12 cu ft box to 30hz, and your port would need to be 17" long. Again with the math (9.5"x19.5"x17"), you'd lose 1.82 cubes for port displacement. Add in the .5 cu ft for the two 18's, you're at about 9.7 cu ft, and the port would now be tuned to about 33.4hz. Contact Fi, see what they recommend for a port tuning frequency for the 18's. Go from there. :bigclap:
  21. That size port is comparable to a round port of 2.5" in diameter, really kind of small if you want to avoid any port turbulence at all. I'd suggest something comparable to a 3.5" diameter, which would put you at about 9.6" of cross-sectional area at .88 cubes, just shy of the recommended 12-16 cu in per sq. ft. A 4" diameter port would get you 12.56 sq in at the .88 cubes, or at 14.3 sq in/ cu ft. Here's a link to the port length calculator I've used. port length Try an external port, running under the seat facing forward... max out the space behind the seat. A 1.5" x 8" port would be 23.14" long, tuned to 35hz. If you can gain .12 cu ft by using an external port, then your port length would drop to 19.5". Do you have enough clearance to do subs up under the seats, with the ports forward?
  22. This post goes along with the one I asked about in the Amplifier forum..... I've never heard of them, but the product looks beefy enough. And, for what my costs might be, I'm wondering if they would be worth taking a chance on dropping some coin on. Massive QC15 I'd really like to try THIS monster out...... SQX 15
  23. I've got a line on the Massive amps, and wondering if any of you guys have ever used/reviewed them. They've got the DB300B, which is supposedly stable at 1 ohm, and does 950RMS @ 2 ohm - my cost is much lower than the MSRP, wondering how it would compare to a Sundown or similar. http://www.massiveaudio.com/store/db-3000b...1-pr-16220.html
  24. What I meant was to not have the port over the hump, but under each side of the seat, maybe a 2x7" port (or larger) at whatever length necessary. Mount the amp(s) under the opposite side.....
