  1. i had a shop build my box, and then install my sub and amp in my Explorer for me. after getting my new truck i transferred everything. when i was taking it out of the Explorer i found out they grounded it once, then moved it and inch away and did it again! WTF? then after some research i found out they built my box too small after telling me they built it right. its actually around 1.5ft^3 instead of just over 2. then one day im driving and my amp blows. so i take everything apart and find out my sub was wired at .5 ohm. i told the guy my sub was D1 in the beginning and he claimed they wired it at 2. the best part is after they installed it i get a phone call from him saying one of his install guys took my wire strippers out of my truck thinking they were theirs?? i had them in the truck still from when i installed my HU. he told me he would ship them to me if i gave him my address. so i did. about a month later i call him back up looking for my strippers. he claims he lost the paper he wrote my address on. so i gave it to him again and he said he would ship them. 5 months later... still no strippers.
  2. well i took the sub out of the box. didnt see ANY hint of damage. spider all looked good. cone looked good. magnet wasn't loose. free aired it at 15. could hear it even worse this way. it didnt sound so much like rattle when it was out of the box. it sounded like air coming out of a tube. its really hard to explain. almost like a distorted sound. sounded like it was coming from either the spider area, or the little gaps in the basket. (circled in the picture) could all this be normal and me just being paranoid? or is something wrong that is just not obvious? thanks for all your guys help so far.
  3. as far as settings... gain is around 2 o'clock, bast boost is off, sub sonic is non-adjustable but i think i remember reading 28 in the manual, the box is i believe around 1.5 cubes (too small i know) and 35 hz, as far as HU settings, the sub level was on 15/15 and bass on 0/7. when i used a DMM to set the gain when i first got it, you couldn't even tell i had a sub. it was so quiet. so i did it by sound. and everything sounded solid til yesterday. i moved the box around and knocked all over it real hard and didnt seem to be a loose panel anywhere. no scraping sound when pushing on cone. and i noticed today sound is really only there from about volume 12-20/35. and i NEVER listen to it past 20. sounds like i need to take the sub out. ill do that saturday and report back. thanks a lot guys!
  4. hey guys i turned on my sub today and got a new weird sound ive never heard before. everything has been fine the last few months, until today. it sounds like a lower pitched rattle of some sort. i listened and it seemed to be coming out of the port. i could smell just a hint of glue, and the cone was warm. anyone got any ideas? if you need any more info just let me know, ill do my best to get it. thanks.
  5. gotcha. makes perfect sense. he said for the actual comp they put the mic on the dash. i wasnt sure cause ive seen a couple pics of people getting 150's here on this forum, but i believe that was either at the headrest or dash, so i wasn't sure. thanks for explaining that!
  6. so my buddy went to a competition today, and got 3rd place in the 0-600 watt class with 2 type-r 15's on a JL 500/1. said he hit like a 140 some. anyways, he said after all the real tests were done, the people let the entry's put the meter anywhere they wanted. he said a kid put the meter down in the port, and hit a 162. then another kid who was there did the same and hit a 177 what do you guys think of this? i dont know a lot about numbers and what things are capable of, but those numbers didnt seem logical.
  7. yeah i was. and thats exactly what it was! feel like a newb! lol. thanks for the help though!
  8. gotcha. ill check when my dad gets home. he has the truck right now. ill try all things you said and post how it goes. thanks! EDIT!: could this be cause i didnt turn up the subwoofer level? i just realized i didnt do that.
  9. it was only for a split second. ill try it without the knob and see what happens. Xover was set at 80, and subsonic cant be adjusted on this amp. oh also, i had this hooked up with everything before with a Hifonics and it worked perfectly fine til the amp blew. i have the RCA's on the "Subwoofer" pre-out on the HU. if i put it in "Front" or "Rear" wont i not be able to tune it on the HU how its supposed to be tuned? like the Sub Level or the Bass?
  10. so i went to hook up my set-up. got everything hooked up, but there is extremely little output from the sub. i can barely hear the bass, but if i set my hand on the sub i can feel it moving just barely. when i went to hook it up the 1st time, i forgot to unhook the battery. when i put in the power wire it sparked and the protection light flashed. then i disconnected the positive battery terminal, hooked up the ground, remote, speaker, RCA's, gains knob, power wire, then positive on battery. hooked everything up in that order. turned the HU on to 10. could barely hear the bass. and like said above when i put my hand on the sub i could feel it moving slightly. played with the gains on the amp, and if i turn it up it gets louder, but still just barely. the gains knob was turned all the way up. also, i had everything hooked up about a month ago to a Hifonics amp, and everything worked perfect. sub is wired at 2 ohms. if anyone has any ideas what it might be, or could tell me what to try that would be great. thanks.
  11. i have the Kolossus Flex 4awg. and some of the Stinger 4awg. they seem comparable to me. like both a lot.
  12. thats probably not the best amp for that set-up. that amp is only rated at 375 watts at 4 ohms. and running it lower then 2 ohms can blow it. mine is set-up with BP and D1. wired at 2 ohms. it could handle more but i got a good deal on the amp.
  13. so basically whatever this amp does at 2 ohms, (which is what impedance ill be wiring it at), it will be doing that? wether its 750 or a little more. sorry about all the questions guys, just tryin to fully understand it. thanks.
  14. awesome. thanks guys! no one around here has a oscope, and i have a DMM. with my last amp i used it, and didnt have any problems.
  15. im confused by all this. can you explain it to me?
  16. if i used 750 and it did 930 then id be clipping it by almost 200 watts... or am i wrong?
  17. alright. so in my equation to find the gains voltage on a DMM i can use 930?
  18. just got my amp. in the box it came with a paper that says "Total Maximum Power Output: 930 watts." can anyone explain what exactly this means? like is it at 2 ohms at a certain voltage or is it the 2 ohm and 4 ohm ratings total added? or what? thanks!
  19. wow never knew the HU's clipped. very good info!
  20. i just set my box in the back seat behind the drivers seat, and have the amp mounted on the box facing the back of the driver seat. need longer RCA's, but other then that it works awesome. and doesnt look too bad either. i need my back seat or else i would have just put it on the floor in the back.
