Break in is a myth. Just play at a low volume to make sure the subwoofer is in good order and listen for any bad sounds (scratching, popping, etc). Once it passes that test, play away.

My 2.0ft^3 tuned to 28Hz off of the XT2000D kicks you right in the stomach when the kicks start thumpin.

I have twice that in educational debt alone... and I worked throughout school, and cost of living here is peanuts compared to anywhere else in North America. Sorry to say, even with a basically free ride through school, unless you want to work a ton and have grades that hurt, you will need a lot of money to support you.

How about this... tell them to put that money in a trust fund for college, where it will really matter... and work to buy your own chit
