I wouldn't even go the route of a new HU. I'd interface a processor to the existing system. Something like the RF360.2, JL CleanSweep etc. That way you keep your screen and all your options while adding EQ control.

There isn't a single part of "18's hit better than ____ size sub" that is true. It's all in your box construction and total installation. Can you go back and answer the rest of Denim's and my questions so we can better help you?

What head unit is this being paired with?

Positive to Positive. Two fuses, one within 18" of each battery. Ground to the frame.

You don't really even need a head unit that can control a 2-way set active. You just need one that has a High Pass on it. From there, you can get the Audio Control 2XS to do the rest for you. It's possible on your budget, but you just need to know when to make a few sacrifices. Obviously, it'd be better to have a head unit do it all, but this will get it done and leave you a bit more for your speakers.

If you want to play higher notes, piece together a 3-way front stage with a large midbass. That's what's going to do those notes for you.

The RUX doesn't have to be connected all the time. You can set up the H701 and disconnect it. All the settings stay.
