  1. ok, i just finished tom's (TLM) ported enclosure for his future purchase of an rl-i8. in the meantime he said i could plug mine into it for playaround time. box specs are as follows, 1ft^3 tuned to 34hz with one 3" round port. was going to be .75ft^3 with one 4" port, but i couldn't fit the port inside the box..lol....anyway... power is supplied by an orion 2500d. at 8ohms. i have no clue as to the power it's getting, but i'd say at least 500wrms. and wow, can this thing go low for an 8! it gets low enough it knocked the terminal cup out of the back of the box, so i glued it...knocked it out again, made larger hole for more glue..knocked it out again. so i've got to go get a cup that can be screwed in...lol.... anyway, being an 8, i suspected it to handle fast transients well and it does. it isn't quite as punchy as i would have imagined, but that could be the larger box. it runs thru the frequency range nicely, playing every note clearly. it get's loud too, for an 8..lol. it fills the cabin of my truck with really warm bass.i like it, alot. but the one thing that really stands out is how low it goes. playing ludicriss's "red light district" album and track 5, wow o wow...i'm so in love with this sub ported! low and loud it is! this is one amazing lil driver. i can't wait to tryit in a larger sealed box, somewhere between .35ft^3 and .5ft^3. and for those wondering about the port area, it's plenty. i catch just a hint of noise, but only when my ear is right up next to the box. sorry if my thoughts are kinda random in this...long work hours..lol. but overall, for someone without alot of room, but doesn't want to sacrifice sound..this is a great sub to look into... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  2. while i'm not sure how great a snailshell enclosure is, and it would have to be great, one 12 xxx isn't going to beat a pair of 12 rl-ps, sealed or otherwise, unless the snailshell is just that great of a box. i've owned and ran the 12 xxx and the 12 rl-p head to head. adn the rl-p sounds just as good, gets lower on sealed boxes then the xxx and will run with the xxx on the mic. i do think the xxx is the louder of the two (though one pereson listening said they were equal, no mic used ), and will handle more power, but the rl-p is the better all around driver IMO...and i've ran them ported and sealed. that being said.... i think 1.8ft^3 is on the small side, i'd try for at least 2ft^3 w/polyfill. but i'd second denim's option of running a pair of 12's...ported. if ur getting 1.8ft^3 sealed for a pair of 15's, u'll get real close to that for a pair of 12's ported.... and 12" rl-ps love 2ft^3 tuned to 34hz vented boxes... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  13. no..for two reasons. first, it's a 15 (SI proto) vs 12 (rl-p). because of that i can't use the same boxes. second, the proto has a bit of motor damage due to the chroming process, which at higher power levels lets itself be known. if i could get ahold of the proto 12, u betcha it would happen! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Kent, I know that you would take care of my sub as I would yours. I would be happy to send you my mag when it comes in for a week or so. It is the 12" version and will be the production model not the Proto. Let me know if you are interested. Hell, maybe I could take a few days off and drive up there and we can have fun terorizing your neiborhood with the solox, mag, and the RL-P ABSOLUTELY!! anytime justin! i'd love to put the new mag (even the old one) heads up against the rl-p. i'm down for it, u just let me know when u wanna do it! be it ship it up here or u drive up here, let's "git-er-done!" but for real, ur more thn welcome, if ur schedule allows, to tool on up here, hang at casa dela ray, and we'll tear chit up!! has to be after june 24-30..i be in jamaica then man! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  14. ahhh..but the rl-p, IMO, can run heads up against the SX, XXX, brahma, and L7 any day of the week in spl and sq. and IMO it beats the 99's and 95's in sq way easily, a few of those can get louder by handling more power, but that's it. but i know for a fact (well, by my ear) the rl-p will get lower then teh xxx and the L7 in same/compareable boxes. and u know as well as i the solox has been beaten by it's lesser brethern in spl contests. this had to do more with enclosure then the sub itself, i'm sure, but it has been beat. but ur right, the rl-p is a lil overmatched by the "Uber". and it's supposed to be. but only because power handling and potential displacement are going to allow it to possibly be louder in a given situation. and because the "Uber" is supposed to be an "exotic" sub. it should be the better sub. but i'd still put the rl-p up against it in sq anyday. mike, u've heard both, what u say? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  15. howdy folks..kinda..lol just a quick drop in to say howdy folks... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  20. email mike directly, [email protected] sold out already? damn...lol...he just got this order in.... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  21. mrray13 replied to jellyfish420's topic in SoundSplinter
nope, no drawback other then the loss of powerhandling, but then again, the sub will be more "efficient" and not need the extra power. could get a bit boomy in that large of a sealed box though. the only way to find out is build it..lol.. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  22. i think both sound excellent, in the proper enclosure. they both have the ability to get impressively loud, though IMO, the rl-p sounds better while doing this. but all things being equal, for the price, there just isn't much out there that can hang with the rl-p. and u throw in the excellent customer service of mike, and the rl-p is a definite winner. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  23. frosty..red stripe is good....and thanks! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  24. good morning just a quick post..lol.. off to work i go!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
