  3. okeeeeeeeedoooookeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  4. excellent..hehe and it's on it's way.. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  5. ok.. on to the review.. this is based soley on three opinions..mine, my wife's and a good friend...we have all three heard both woofers in this set up... speaking of which..the setup.. 1.25ft^3 sealed enclosure pushed by an hifonics nemesis nx750..doing 750wrms(rated at 1 ohm)..crossover on amp set to 100hz, no subsonic...everything else factory monsoon in a 2004 grand prix. so away we go... ok..so i played everything from outkast's speakerboxx intro to def lepperd's vault album.. these subs sound sweet..they both keep up quite well with very little overhang. they are fun to watch and nice to listen too. as to which has better sq..it's definitely a draw...u won't be disappointed with either one. as to which plays lower, in this application, the rl-p wins hands down. my wife's exact words," it's (the xxx) doesn't go as low. the seats don't shake as much"....that was the opinion expressed by all three of us. so the rl-p wins here. spl...while i don't have a meter...they were very close here. my wife couldn't tell a difference while ryan and myself both thought the xxx was louder as it went up in the frequencies. the xxx wins here, but not by much..of course a mic would be needed to tell the whole truth. power handling...both handle the hifonics exceptionaly well. both could handle more power. the xxx is rated for more 1600wrms vs the rl-p's 500wrms. so by rating the xxx wins. i don't have anything that produces anymore power at one ohm, so i can't get into which sub can handle the most. overall...it's a tossup. the lighter weight of the rl-p makes it easier to handle and it does play lower in this application. the xxx, due to power rating, should have the potential to get uite a bit louder and in this case seemed to be louder with the power on hand. the xxx might just need a bigger box in this case even though re recommends .8ft^3. it just doesn't reach real low sealed, even in 1.25ft^3. if i had to pick a winner, it would be the rl-p. price, easier to handle and sq bieng a touch better due to the fact that it does play lower gives it the edge..in this application. more room, more power, the xxx is definitely a contender..no disrespect intended for this sub. after a few days of breakin, i'll update this review..... maybe not as indepth as everyone would like, but i'm lazy..lol wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  6. u can make me a humidor..i sold mine.. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  7. btw..post number one..hopefully reply number 1 of the IHoP!!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  8. this is our version of the thread.... only rules.. no racism or discrimination will be allowed of any kind... u aren't allowed to like ricers or be prepared to be made fun of... and anything else goes... so wh0re it up, cuz it's allowed!! welcome to the IHoP..the International House of Poo where everything is on the menu...u just can't have it... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  9. ok folks... here goes an impromto comparsion between a proven talked about sub, the re XXX against a relative newcomer, the soundsplinter RL-p first things first..some side by side pics... head on, they look like relatives... from the side, the xxx is deeper..8 1/4" compared to the rl-p 6 5/8" a little different angle... xxx 12 spoke venuzula, rl-p 4 spoke.. a close up of the xxx terminal's..while i like the set screw design and 8 gauge input, i don't like the unwoven tinsel leads. for a sub with this kinda potential, i would've thought woven tinsel leads would have been in order the SS's spring loaded terminals....used by many...i actually lie the set screws of the xxx better (mike, are u reading this?) but the SS has woven in tinsel leads..which i like better then the xxx's the beef...the xxx has the bling, while the SS has the bring it on look..personal taste here...i like the no chit attitude of the black rl-p, but the xxx would be sweet inverted! another view of the magneets... in the box next to the hifonics...the weight of this thing is something..like 58pds..makes for an interesting time installing it by urself in an vertical enviroment...lol close up in the box.... review in a minute...lol wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  10. where's the smilie for a big head?? anyway, thanks guys... it's sitting in my office so that the glue can cure at a decent temp. also because my wife wanted her car back inthe garage..lol... anyway, i await the acrylic... and also, ryan, do u want me to route (roundover) the edges or are u wanting to do all the finish work? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  11. if all goes as planned...my hpo's are going to end up in a "coffee table" horn...hehe..kep the chocolate milk shaken, not stirred... but that's only because, like steve, i have an urge to build something other then a typical sub enclosure.. plus , i wanna know if a horn sounds as good as they say it does... btw steve...i think good towers (i'd use 8's as the mids because of the uber playing so low) with a really nice xover would seal the deal....5.1...bah...i don't have anything other then a rack system currently and i shake the hell outa my house...sounds just like a theater...well, almost wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  12. ryan, steve.. i honestly have no clue what i'm going to do with it.. i know this much, as soon as the garage warms up (yep ryan, i put ur box together in sub 20 tempertures, but it's inside curing) i am taking the SS out of it's home and dropping the xxx in....going to do a head to head....same car, same box, same power... after that?? who knows?!??! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  13. x2 wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  14. nick..thanks...50" hitachi...soon to be replaced.....65" zenith is the plan... 97...i have no idea yet.....maybe a 1000d..i dunno... nick is supposed to im me so we can talk... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  15. a box...i wonder what's inside?? a crate?? wtf?? a subwoofer in plastic?? a subwoofer outa plastic?? ahh....my XXX has arrived.... not done until u do the beer bottle comparo...lol wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  16. straight edge one side.. straight edge other side.. 13.5" tall...i dunno if u can see the tape real well.. 32" long.... 11" deep, not counting the baffle that's yet to be attached... while i'm not going to say it's perfect..it's really, really, really close... whatcha think ryan?? btw..titebond II premium wood glue dries white if ur wondering what the white stuff is.....hehe.... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :peace:
  17. okeeeeedoookeeeeee i'll have the box assembled here directly...the mirrors will be cut to fit, but not attached...when i get the acrylic...lol.. alrighty then... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  18. it is cut down and ready to assemble..which will happen tomorrow.. pics soon... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  19. i can't wait to see the finished product myself.. i know this much.. i've never cut a box this precise...it won't need any sealer, that's how tight the joints are! when i get it assembled, i'll lay a straight edge across the edges and take a pic.. like a glove baby... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  20. yep..thsoe are the ones i spoke of above.. small sealed enclosures... btw..i emailed resales (still got the link inmy contacts) about prices for an se or sx...no response....bought a soundsplinter because mike did. great decision!! i love my rl-p.. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  21. alrighty then..... i'll get er cut down and assembled so that she'll be awaiting... how's titebond II premium wood glue?? only the best for u... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  22. hate to quote the whole post, but... i never said re was a bad company. i never said they shouldn't have their bandwagon...and i'd never discredit them because i've never used them (yet)..what i was getting at was the keyboard commando's whose best friends little sister's favorite uncles mechanics grandpa's brother-in-laws son said was an awesome sub.yet they've never heard, owned or seen it (any sub, not just re). i don't dislike the company because of it's followers...i dislike the followers of the users. on ebeef i do have with re, is they don't have great customer courtesy...going on a year since i emailed them...no reply as of yet. and i'd dislike those same ppl if they were on SS or treo's bandwagon...both brands which i have own/owned and use/used. as to the size of the subs...i think 6ft^3 gross is big for a mobile audio sub...but i believe since the majority seem to own suv's...sub companies are going to build subs accordingly...remember when solobarics came out, they were designed for small enclosures, and at the time small cars where the thing to have... i agree about the jackhammer...300+pds....whatever...lol...useless. sorry for my rant..but i want to make sure u understand where i'm coming from.. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  23. at lower volumes, i don't think i could tell the difference. at the upper limits, however, some subs (eclipse alum) have a metallic "ding" type sound to them....hard to explain, but it's a noticeable sound. don't really have a preference...maybe poly cones cuz i've always had good luck with them. a nice compromise between paper/paper mixs and metal.. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :peace:
