Drove the 300C today. Awesome car. Drove much nicer than the CTS in my opinion. CTS was too plain on the inside and I am afraid you are paying for the name more than anything. Surely GM could have put something a little more fancy and a lot less plastic inside. Got the dealership on the hunt for a 300C with the options, color and price I want - see what they can do for me.

Welcome to the IHoP
Hope you find something fun. Do you shop online first? I am one of these freaks who only shops for a particular year, color, set of options and will only go look at something that fits it perfectly. *wasn't looking for red when I bought hte M though, but couldn't say no Once I figure out what vehicle I want, I'll go through the options list and check off exactly what I want and won't accept anything less. Drive the 300 C tomorrow and see how it feels. Seems like it should be a good highway car. Litle bit of aftermarket potential too. Was offered a base model Charger with the 3.5L ... 2007, very low miles, ugly color, and a new set of wheels for $15,000 ... forget that. Good price, but I'm starting to think the Charger is a touch on the small side. Keep hearing bad things about the CTS. Tough time finding parts for them and they are expensive ... apparently. I was not that impressed with the interior, either - typical GM.

I know One of my most favorite interiors. But I can't get it serviced here ... and I don't think I want to drive to Calgary to get it done.

Well, I found a dealer who will bring in anything. So that pretty much opens up my options a LOT more. Problem: There are no Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Lexus, Infiniti, Acura, or Volvo dealerships here ... and I'm not going to the one reputable import mechanic as I'll still get gouged by him.

Welcome to the IHoP
Found a dealership that will bring in anything I want. Sat in the CTS today and wasn't exactly blown away. Going to look at the 300C a little more I think. Was told the CTS has a boatload of electrical problems, the parts aren't cheap and are hard to find, and overall expensive to maintain. Guy is willing to bring in anything from a 3 series to a G35 and so on.

Tom, are you are U of A or ASU? I'll be in Tuscon at the U of A with a guy I train ... he'll be doing a couple track and field events. He also happens to be going to the Olympics this year.

That will come after this stepping stone. I was going to go big right off the bat but then something came up ... and it will require a fair amount of miles driven. Best option for me is to grab something a year or two old that won't depreciate much more and use it for that purpose - then when the time comes, sell it off or even keep it.

I'm afraid it wouldn't be as good as the CTS on the highway in terms of overall comfort. At least if a moose walked out in front of me I would drive under it. I'm trying to find a big cruiser. Also, something good in the snow.

Used A6's are hard to come by here ... nevermind one with the 3.0.

Anyone know the hourly rate for an independent person with a video camera and editing software to film me for a couple hours and put together a small video? I have no idea.

The used CST-V's are $33,000-$46,000 ... well above the target <$25,000. Since it'll be on the highway, 250hp is more than enough passing power and I'll take the non-V for gas mileage reasons. Hopefully I can luck out pretty quick here and find a CTS. Even one without a couple options ... then just have them dealer installed.

Actually, they are having trouble finding me a used R/T right now as well - not many on dealer lots in BC or AB. The CTS would be great for me with the V grille. Lots of used CTS's out there right now, but they are either a) 1-year lease returns maxed out mileage wise or b) have an exterior color other than black. I want that thing blacked out.

That is the plan ... with price factored in, it should be an '05 or '06. You can't find a used V around here. I don't want to have to deal with a standard right now, either. The only plus I see with the R/T is the HEMI ... I wouldn't mind the extra 100 hp and still maintain the same gas mileage. I have to keep in mind that this car is being bought to run around on the highway so 255 hp is plenty. You are voting v6 > v8? I know, I know a Caddy is a GM. Not saying GM's interiors are spectacular, but I really hate the Charger's interior the CTS exterior is far better looking too, IMO And I chose to not support the mockery made of historic model names I don't like the gauge faces of the Charger. I also don't like the seats ... way too plain and unsupportive for that trim as far as I'm concerned. If I go with the CTS I will be ditching the stock grille and replacing it with the V style grille. Much nicer in my opinion. Always good to hear that they have lots of room. While I won't find myself in the back seat or care about anyone back there, if I recall correctly ... the CTS has a couple inches more legroom up front over the Charger which is always welcome on the long hauls. I am going to see what sort of prices I can work with the Charger and go from there. If they won't budge from $25K+ I guess I will have to "settle" for the Caddy (ha!). Especially considering the CTS will probably wind up around $21-23K after I battle it out.

Thanks for that link. Fuel economy is not a huge issue although it is something that clearly needs to be considered. As long as I get around 17+/27+ I'll be happy. Anything beats the trucks. I don't expect gas to drop any ... if anything, it'll go through the roof (even more) this coming summer. Who knows.
