Welcome to the IHoP
Smart ... I burnt a few credits on 'The Electromagnetic Interaction' and 'Quantum Mechanics III' ... hell I think I took Solid State too. Christ that was along time ago.

Welcome to the IHoP
Somewhat. Still have a ton of stuff going on. Semester is winding down so that is nice. I'll have the summer (May-August) off to work elsewhere and keep plugging away on my research. Got my research in on time to the journals so that was a huge relief. Been really busy lately trying to fit in training along with work. I still do roughly two hours of work per night at home which is acceptable and necessary, but I would still like to get it down. I have to do a whole bunch of reading on all of these new products and, hell, companies for that matter. If I'm not buying and testing products, I'm out of the loop.

Camaro It's called Periodization and Principle of Progression/Overload ("progressive overload") ... lots of info out there on the topic. Tudor Bompa's book outlining periodization is great. In order to notice results you need to keep your body guessing. You've been out of weightlifting so your periodization scheme should be something similar to this: a few weeks of general anatomical adaptation, few weeks focussing on hypertrophy (muscle size), few weeks of strength training, couple weeks of power training. It's just typical cycle. Throw in drop sets, giant sets, endurance training, plyometrics and so on. Everyone needs to sit down and plan a full training scheme. I do one year at a time and divide my time into a few mesocycles, each with a specific goal in mind. Each mesocycle is divided into microcycles with specific exercises, training loads, mini-goals etc etc etc. Biggest mistake is people just jump right into heavy weights for few reps ... let your body adjust and adapt first, then move on towards and address your goal(s). There's a lot to setting up a quality program - I just did a strength program for someone and it took me a few days and wound up being something like 26 pages long, full of detail etc. If you're interested, I can send you a bunch of info via e-mail (send me your address) - I'll send you my lecture notes from the Theory of Strength Training course I taught. Noticeable results ... you're looking at around the two month mark. Want to see results? Perform good exercise and bust your ass. As a novice you'll notice results rather quickly and your adaptations will primarily be neural at the beginning. Supplements ... most are complete garbage. Protein and creatine are pretty much the two only 'proven' supplements that work. The NO is a good pre-workout boost to maximize your time spent in the gym. Good idea to cycle it as to not become either dependent on it, or have your body get used to it (subsequently need higher doses). "Losing the gut" will come through cardio and abdominal exercises, more importantly what happens in your kitchen.

I need the extra support with the weight I'm doing on the platform now. Here is a custom made version made in Canada - I'll be getting a pair of these to check 'em out: Here is an AdiSTAR - I'm debating getting the Olympic version of these guys as well: If I go through a pair of gym shoes every year, then this is a pretty good investment if you ask me. $150 for good shoes that will last me the rest of my life and maybe one pair of gym shoes every year and a half or two years.

No kidding. You'd think the connections I have through my profession and athletic background would have been enough. Wound up being a 'friend of a friend' ... so it works for me.

Finally might have a lock on some Olympic issue weightlifting shoes. 'Bout time, I've been calling people forever. Adidas doesn't exactly make their shoe accessible to those who aren't Olympic athletes.

1 mile sounds good to me - similar benefits and such? Job offers all over this board lately - I just got a nice one for May through the end of August. It isn't an offer anymore, though ... because I took it.

That would be great. I'm just getting into the market for one ... don't hang onto it for me, I'll let you know at some point in the future if I'll pick it up to see if you have it.

"I believe in the death penalty, police brutality, and consented rape" ... you'd think it would work. Apparently it didn't - lucky I was booked for a work trip., it wound up being a four and a half week trial. The lost wages wouldn't cut it.

Fuck me ... I've got one shitty teaching and course-work schedule for September.

I need to find something else to curb my anger and stress. Shooting is good, but the range is a long drive. Weightlifting and training is perfect, but I do that too much as it is and any more will simply lead to overtraining and negative results. Driving is fun, but gas is stupid expensive and it's not like I own anything 'good' on gas ... except for the bike. I know better to ride that death trap when I'm pissed off. Might be time to visit a counselor - I have taken a ton of Psychology courses and I still don't believe in any of that bullshit, nor do I listen to anyone else but myself so they will have their hands full. Worth a shot anyway - maybe they'll have some suggestions. Mind you, since everything these days is "medicalized" ... I'll probably be diagnosed with something even I have never heard of and be put on some medication which costs $350 per week - in which case, I'll bitch and complain until they give me testosterone and gain 25lbs in four weeks. Kidding - Captain Canada does not endorse the use of anabolic agents and he himself is all-natural.

Women are stupid. End of story. Drive me bloody insane. Dealing with them at work is fine because they're all professional, educated individuals. Come home and while she is professional and very well educated, it's like I'm in the circus or visiting the zoo.

Welcome to the IHoP
Me too. I've been burned by too many "friends" in the past. I walk around hating everyone until I actually get to know them. Then, when they fuck me over, I don't feel so bad. I hate people in general ... that's all there is to it. I'm to the point where if someone is being an idiot, I let them know. If someone is staring at me when I'm working out, I let them know that they need a haircut and I'm going to put my foot through their throat. I just walk around with an "I don't give a shit" attitude. And you know what ... It has gotten me much, much more than the old "Lay back, be nice to everyone, be generous and help others" attitude.

Welcome to the IHoP
My first thought every morning. I must've had my tough-guy flakes this morning because I was throwing weight around like crazy today. Seen a guy try to do a clean and he wound up falling backward off of the Olympic platform. You've gotta be retarded to fall off our platforms ... they're near ten feet long. Pretty sure I'm in over my head with work. Research has to be sent to the publisher by April 2nd, should be able to get it done. Have to start on my next research endeavor right away because I already have grants secured. Presentation on why we are spending less time with our family has to be done for next Friday. Complete four month (summer) training programs tailored to every member of the hockey team need to be done by April 2nd as well - lucky I'm already almost done those. I'm making up the final exams - putting true/false and multiple choice on Scantron sheets ... I'll mark the short answer and the T/A's can deal with feeding 200 some sheets (per class) through the machine and marking the matching. I like how the Asian ESL students write exams - they write an essay for every short answer question but then go through and highlight the key words ... it literally takes me 30 seconds per paper to just run through, find the words and give them full marks. If they're missing one then I must read it, but the few that are all there save me a ton of time.

I'm tired of sitting down to get work done and just not being there mentally.

Thanks for the link. I wonder if they'd work ... The original PR's were 18" and the guys that are utilizing that setup are running two of them.

Lewis + Conley > Oden. That last second three was nice. I wouldn't mind if Xavier won ... but OT isn't looking good for them right now.

I agree - I'm watching the game right now and he really isn't doing much. Just a big guy who stands there and acts like a wall.
