suggestion on 12" subs in a ported box
I'm not totally sure but i think he has his highpass set way below 52hz and since his sub's can handle a insane amount of power they just handle it below the tuning freq but i could be wrong Anyway I know everyone doesn't like doing the this vs that but , how does the sundown sa12 sound compared to the mach 5 ixl 12 ported version? which handles more power? and what coil config's are they available in because i will be ordering later today can a pair of either one of them handle a SAZ 3000D daily? if not what about a audioque 2200?

suggestion on 12" subs in a ported box
to reply to the last guy, i had a half wall no ive decided to put my backseat back, after hearing one of my friends setups with a saz 3000d, two bat caps, 2 audioque 12's tuned to 52hz ive decided that maybe higher tuning might be nice

suggestion on 12" subs in a ported box
Alright so ive decided to take out the 15" q's entirely, and put my back seat back in and get 2 12" subs which will be ported max space is 4.0 cubes, amp is 1200 watts rms at 4 ohm's , 1500 watts at 2 ohms, and its not rated at 1 ohm but i have ran it at one ohm for a couple months on and off with no problems, I have a opima yellowtop up front, and am about to put a kinetik in the trunk, Anyway subs need to be loud but not all out spl and under 350 a piece suggestions??? I want i dont want a one note wonder

choosing the right 15" sub
I think what the problem is is, that the box is flexing like crazy cause looking inside the enclosure the only bracing is the port, but im starting to think the reason the kickers wer louder is that they were woofers/port fired at the trunk, where as this half wall is subs/port towards front seat,i was thinking about just changing to a sealed box,or gettin 12's or 10's firing towards the trunk. My friend has two Kove Auido 15's in a sealed box (3/4" mdf probally around the neighborhood of 5.5-6 cubic feet, and his sounds really good) {hits all notes equally loud} amp is really low powered like somewhere around 200rms each sub off a a rockford amp i really like the way his sounds, I just want to be able to hit all the notes louder without crazyloud trunk rattling. I mean i know its gonna rattle outside but when it rattles so much all you can here is rattling inside the car then its just annoying Also I found out that this box is tuned at the lowest 35hz (kinda hard to determine the volume of the enclosure because it is a trapeziod half wall with another trapezoid going into the trunk ___ / /__ /___/__/ shaped like that with small section into the trunk and big section where the back seat used to be subs/port forward volume is hard to determine because i really cant measure the part that seperates the trunk and cabin so volume is somewhere around 8 cubic feet and the tuning is somehwere around 35-38hz maybe all this rattling is caused by the box not being braced worth a crap?

choosing the right 15" sub
yea i though about it i could lower the highpass on my 6x9's but i dont want to end up blowing them i got infinity kappa 6x9s in the back and 6x8 infinity componets in the front, off a soundstream that pushes 120rms x 4 treble sounds really good just which i had some more powerful 50-70 hz, I need more sound deadning i got the whole car dynamated with one layer of xtreme but my trunk still shakes like its about to pop off and fly away at anything under 40 hz lol, this is in a mustang so space is limited i was thinking about maybe putting in a 8" sub somewhere and have it in some kind of bandpass from 50-80 hz but wouldnt that throw off the phase?

choosing the right 15" sub
yea but 2 12's in a prefab box with a tiny little aero port vs 2 15's in a 7.5cubic feet box after displacment and port that has a port that is like 39" x 3",maybe ill take the subs out and see if i can make the port shorter to raise the tuning freq, anyway the question is can fi do some machine work to the q's and raise the FS?and lower the qts?

choosing the right 15" sub
lowpass is set to around 70 hz im just saying when you got rap songs that have multiple bass notes , the q's hit the low's hard but the highs aren't loud at all with my old kickers same amp it was the other way around, but the other notes used to have alot more spl it seems with my old kicker 12's in a 3.0 cubic feet box with a aero port, tuning was probally something like 36 hz. The box is a half wall so changing subs is probally cheaper than changin the box,in order to change box i have to take my center console out front seats out, and it is heavy as hell so i dont want to change the box. I hit 142.1db at 50hz with the Q's but to me it seemed like the kickers were louder in a much smaller box. Now someone was telling me that I could use the same basket and motor and have it changed into a bl somehow

choosing the right 15" sub
To me that just doesnt sound right (had to be doing something wrong or thought box was tuned low and wasnt), they are low end monsters so I wouldnt see how they cant dig the lows. Thats like someone saying their BL doesnt get loud, has to be install issues. I have heard of Q's lacking the high end, so Im with Shizzzon here, tune a little higher before abandoning the subs could save you some money by just making another enclosure for them. What is your LPF set at on headunit or amp, whichever your using as the crossover?

choosing the right 15" sub
So right now i have 2 15" Fi Q's but im starting to get annoyed with them, They are in a 9 cubic feet box tuned to 33 hz (thats probally 7.5 cubes after port and displacement) Anyway they hit the low notes very hard but the high's suck, I heard the can somehow be reconed into a bl or changed into a bl is this true?

Pics of my new toy.
Looks like a Vortech Supercharger. I don't think any self respecting mustang owner would put a turbo on a V8. Overall, I like the understated look of it. Minimal exterior mods, but thought out (brakes and what not). Whats wrong with a turbo have you seen the 900rwhp turbo cobra's try doing that with a blower on pump gas

Super Loud Front Stages
I'll have to wait and see, when I put this new amp in I'm sure it will sound alot better because my 4 ch that is in there currently is garbage. But I have infinity speakers in my room and I think they sound great, maybe it's because it's a ported bookshelf at 8 ohms but they sound great, and my receiver puts out 110watts rms x 7 and it gets crazy loud and totally drowns out my 350 watt rms 12" Klipsch sub at high volume. Basically I just would like my car to sound like my room

Super Loud Front Stages
I'm putting soundstream in next weekend,I have a 7 Band Parametric EQ I'm puttin in next weekend, and a Kinetik 1800. I never mentioned anything about sound quality in this thread,I realize I just want loud that doesn't sound like garbage,Maybe I gave the thread the wrong title, I should have said door speakers and rear deck because I run 4s speakers, earlier in the thread someone else said I should have gotten sound quality subs, I just stated that Fi Q's are clean sounding subs. maybe you're speaking of a different thread. To the person earlier, I have dynamat extreme, in the doors, floor, roof and trunk. I probally will be adding another layer in the future. The Q's sound fine to me I don't want bass any louder than it is.

Super Loud Front Stages
Alright if i have my gain's set correctly on my amp which I do, then what is wrong with a bass knob? because without a bass knob if I turn my deck's EQ bass to -6 (which it pretty much stays on, unless I'm listening to Rock then I turn it up to -3) it still drowns everything out without my bass knob turned down drastically. There is no distortion on my subs, and I never turn my EQ up beyond -3. And somebody said I should have got sound quality subwoofers, You're saying Fi Q's dont have any sound quality? Because I think they sound pretty clean. Basically what I'm saying is, I want the lyrics to sound louder, and not totally be overpowered by Bass and Cymbals which is how it sound's currently if i play Rap. My Deck only has Bass and Treble for EQ, so it's kinda hard to get everything dialed in right.

Super Loud Front Stages
I do turn it down to blend in with the front stage, but I would like to be able to have my front stage loud enough so it blends in when I got my bass knob turned all the way up I turn the bass knob to probally 1/4 turn to blend in.

Warden Series Release - May 1st
If I may ask, how come IA doesn't show their thiele parameters? I figured after reading about this long awaited release that they would want to advertise what I would imagine to be a insane SPL 1w/1meter, and I think everyone would like to know the Xmax. But since I don't think anyone will tell me the SPL and Xmax. Are they high Xmax drivers like TC Sounds and the RE XXX or low Xmax drivers like DD???????

Sound Solutions Audio Car Audio Encyclopedia
Yea they can get the info off this very site, but this would be a nice hardcover book for us desktop guys you cant take on the road, to the shop, or to the store. But mostly it would be to support a SSA gathering I mean if there were 100 books bought in a year that would be enough to hold an event I would say. If some member's brough there own Termlab or something it could. Buy food to be cooked and sold to further try to not be in the hole off the whole event.
