how many cubes for 1 12" rlp off 500 watts
My 2 cents (I'm not sure if this is bad etiquette, using a previous post of mine, but since my advice is the same I don't see why not) Feel free to chastise me if neccessary. I'm sure there are good ported boxes out there but on average they never sound as clean and accurate as a sealed box. Think about it, you are putting a big ass speaker in a car, it'll be loud enough, Sealed (sounds better, saves space, easier to build, less weight, way more predictable). -if you are really concered with SPL try another tactic like putting in lots of sound deading, your system might not be louder per se but it will def. sound louder because you don't have to play it over road noise. -I put 80lbs of sound deadener in the cab of a BMW 318 and its way quite (its about 7 layers, something like .25") man this helped so much, and people aren't going to jack my sh-t because they can't hear it outside of the car. The quieter your car is the louder your stereo is. Listen to your home stereo then turn on the vacum, sucks doesn't it? so limit noise and gain SQ and you'll hear more of what you want MUSIC! later, b

I'm sure there are good ported boxes out there but on average they never sound as clean and accurate as a sealed box. Think about it, you are putting a big ass speaker in a car, it'll be loud enough, and esp. if you've been liking the way double kick drums sound go with sealed. (sounds better, saves space, easier to build, less weight, way more predictable). And that guy on the other post is right, you will eventually lose your hearing if you bang your sh-t loud enough all the time. A buddy of mine has two Eclipse TI 15's in his audi and it is way too loud and he's half way deaf now. Whats a good speaker if you are deaf? -if you are really concered with SPL try another tactic like putting in lots of sound deading, your system might not be louder per se but it will def. sound louder because you don't have to play it over road noise. -I put 80lbs of sound deadener in the cab of a BMW 318 and its way quite (its about 7 layers, something like .25") man this helped so much, and people aren't going to jack my sh-t because they can't hear it outside of the car. later, b

My RLPs in my tC - PICS!
right on, I dig it. Matched paint, fiberglass, sealed, yep you did it right. Have you put in any separates yet, based on your HU i would think so. If you did that fiberglass yourself any advice on bullding kick panels? -I'm glad some people out there still like the clean look, flashy is trashy.

A RL-p in .55cuft excursion and distortion
Thats a good question, they never told me what program they were running but I checked their info against various internet sites (maybe not a good way to do it) and they gave me very similar information. Now I feel like even more of a putz, I can't remember all of the sites I used, kbapps.com was one of them and it verified what the shop was telling me. If there is any chance you have software (or could lead me to it) I'd appreciate if you could run it for me and see what Q.7 would actually be and what I am running in .55cuft right now. I have a Mac so WINisd doens't work. In case the T/H parameters have changed for the RL-p12 here is what they were when I bought it. Sound Splinter Premium 12 Md

I forgot to mention that there is a small amount of polyfill in the box (not crammed but just about full). I so the box might act like .6 or something like that. B

A RL-p in .55cuft excursion and distortion
First of all I want to say thanks to Mike for kickin ass and I love my RL-p. So I have an RL-p 12 in a .55cuft net sealed box (its inside the cab of my car behind the pass seat, I hate the way trunks make bass sound muffled and quiet). It's running off of a PPI 2150 (about 500-600wrms). I had a local high end audio shop run software for this sub (and confirmed their numbers with other internet sites) for a Q of .7 Seeing how that is what most sq people rec I went with that. My question, the speaker seems to distort when driven hard and I'm trying to figure out if it is the speaker distorting or the amp clipping. Freeair testing this sub it looks like it can move way farther than it does in the box before it risks bottoming. Am I running into what they call power compression? Is it the amp? The box does not leak or anything like that. If it is the amp clippping can I assume I'm not going to damage the sub since it isn't the thing being really stressed? Thanks guys
