man, can the bottom of the cone hit the basket? i don't think i've pushed my RL-p 15 that far before...i just usually have it on a moderate volume.
  2. looks great! i see that you signed up over here as well
  3. looks good. wonder how my rlp sounds like ported. but i got new plans for my trunk this summer.

a pair of RL-p 15 would definately get loud, and have awesome SQ at the same time.
  5. Arc Audio 1500-XXK. I have it bridged @ 2 ohms. The amp is rated at 1k watts @ 2 ohms bridged, but it's a bit under-rated. Thing I don't get is, that the amp + sub combo sounded awesome in the old car, and never had this issue until recently. my gains are set about halfway, and the box completely sealed without any air leaks.
  6. yeah, it's sealed. 2.0 cu ft net.
  7. Is it clipping? Took the sub out, and it still made that sound on lower volumes. It's not bottoming out for sure, but what the hell can cause it? I'm using the same box and amp that I had in my old car, and it worked like a charm then.
  8. so 1200 split by two RL-ps? they should be able to take that power easily. i'm sending ~1k to my rl-p 15, and it's fine. just tune it correctly and you shouldn't run into any issues.

    uhmm...nice phone?
  11. left...a...freaking...dent...on...the...cone today...!!! wonder if i can push the dent out from the underside of the cone.
  12. ah yes...Tuan...he has a pretty sick setup in his car.
  13. sounds damn good. gets pretty loud (and accurate of course), even with the baffle in place. overall pretty pleased with the setup! here's another pic:
  14. actually it wasn't TOO bad. the baffle can fold up a bit so we can shove it into the trunk. several hatch marks were cut in the middle so the MDF can bend a bit.
  15. alrighty...here are some more pics my friend snapped. spent a few hours finishing up the trunk. the pics doesn't really do the actual appearance justice. the carpet looks way different in terms of color in the pictures, but it's actually pretty similar when you see it in person. i'll try to take some better pics in the sunlight (it was pretty cloudy today). another test fit of all the stuff in place. Mmmmm.... from a side angle. more pics to come! i love how it ended up looking. the arc amps look very nice in contrast to the carpet
  16. update pic: panel is now carpeted to match the trunk. we also decide to cut a slot above the sub cutout to help vent the bass into the cabin of the car. we were a little worried that the baffle will keep all the sound isolated to the very rear of the trunk, since the baffle is designed to span the width, height, and contour of the trunk. the 'port' is covered by a layer of speaker box fabric. people who doesn't know that it's really a sealed box back there may think the entire thing is a ported enclosure. we should have everything installed tomorrow, and will post more pics then. it should look pretty nice...simple yet clean.

since we're sorta on the topic of neodymium magnets, how come nothing sticks to the magnet on my boston acoustics? they use a neo magnet, but i got curious one day and placed a nail on the magnet and there was no attraction. so...is the magnet is enclosed in some sort of barrier to channel the magnetic field? i love reading these type of informative threads
  18. looks interesting. function over form right? btw, give that butt a rub with Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish. works like a charm.
  19. nah, they'll remain uncovered. it looks sorta bad right now laying on the ground like that, but once it's all carpeted and you're looking at it from the proper angle, the amps won't look like it's recessed in that much. the whole thing will go into my 06 nissan maxima.
  20. yeah, i thought about the whole extra space issue as well. with the sub mounted 'normally', it's 2.0 net volume...and i loved how it sounds. plus it's seeing ~1k watts so any increase in airspace will decrease its power handling by a bit. can't wait to finish it
  21. spent saturday at my friends house so he can help me build a front baffle for my pre-existing box. here's a pic we took when we put stuff in for a test it. still debating whether or not to invert the sub. it looks clean either way. we will take more pics as the project resumes (damn carpet place was closed for the weekend)
  22. plain cone > all
  23. i actually prefer the logo-less cone. plain, but very classy looking. too bad they don't have plain cones anymore
