  1. Head Unit: Alpine Full range amp: Rockford Fosgate Component Speakers: Umm, I don`t know cos I`ve never had what I regard as a proper quality component set up & I`ve only had the JBL GTO Mk II. The best set I`ve ever heard were made by Fusion. Sub Amp: PowerBass / Directed Subwoofers: Digital Designs / Stereo Integrity / RE XXX / Death Penalty / Eminence Bass Pumps & LTD MK1. Batteries: Redflash 3500 (Equivalent of the Stinger SP1700, so I`ve been told)
  2. UndercoverPunk: That`s not a DD6.5" driver in your avatar picture is it?
  3. That`s weird. I`m looking at this thread right now & I can see 3 different pictures.
  4. It`s was a whole sub once. Till I shoved 5000watts down it It`s part of of a NSX SPL subwoofer and the magnet is the base of our M.E.C.A. Microphone holder. I`ve posted up some pics now. (Only just got round to figuring out how to do it - DOH!)
  5. Hey guys. I`m not very good with computers & posting pictures. But I think I`ve figured out how to post pictures now. O.k. This is Team South East U.K. Starting from the left. Blinky Bill - works in Car Audio industry. (Founder of T.S.E.) Mega Heavy Bass (Marcos), in the bright T-Shirt. (Founder of T.S.E.) Paul - Our accountant (Founder of T.S.E.) John - V.I.P. (Automotive Retail) This is our mic holder which I knocked up. It is sitting on the bonnet on my Escort. We call it "Johnny 5" The magnet on the btm came from a Top of the range NSX SPL subwoofer and weighs about 18 pounds!!! Hence the handles on it. This is my 19 Year Old Ford Escort. Picture taken 3 years ago. It looks a lot better now cos off all the GFX etc. I`ll try & post some pics of the actual systems that I`ve had in it...
  6. Pictures - Should be avaliable in these threads: http://www.ofoto.co.uk/PhotoView.jsp?&coll...oid=49794402833 http://www.teamsoutheast.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=90 http://members.aol.com/blinkybi11/TSE/Cars/Marcos/ Sorry, you should be able to click on the files & view them.
  7. Want to see how ugly we are in the U.K.? Check out the Team South East website & look in the M.E.C.A. section. Sorry the site isn`t as easy to use as yours. but we will be working on it. http://www.teamsoutheast.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=365 You should be able to see a few photos of T.S.E members. Starting from the Left. Blinky Bill , Me in the bright T-Shirt, Paul, John, Andy of M.A. Audio U.K., James & Ken (A.K.A Troublestarter) And you may see my purple Escort with what we call Johnny 5, Our M.E.C.A. Microphone stand which I made. My current ,very rough, install which is now down to one sub. By the end of the season, when I`ve got as loud as I can I then go mad & make it look pretty. This year will be different though. Cos of my new Street Bass install. http://members.aol.com/blinkybi11/TSE/Cars/Marcos/
  8. Hmm. Another option. I`ve got a 3way set up in my other car, Vauxhall Sri (do you have these in the U.S.?) They do sound quite good. Got no subwoofer installed in it yet, though.
  9. Cheers guys We`ve got two more competitions on the 20th & 21st August. Going to be quite busy. Hopefully we`ll be doing the Drive By event too In the mean time I`m making a new box for the single DD3515" sub that I`m using at the moment. Will post the new scores or records as they are made. Will be interesting to see the difference between the DD3515 & a 15" Magnum D2 in my current set up.
  10. Hey guys. Just thought I`d let you know what`s happening in the U.K. SPL scene. Any M.E.C.A. members on here? We at TEAM SOUTH EAST have just hosted the U.K.s first ever M.E.C.A. event. After a few complications with the computer we started late. But we all had fun!! I competed with just half my system working (2 amps & 1x 15" sub). Did quite well though. Over 150dB Here are the LOUDEST competitors in their classes, that competed. S/RSPL SR - Street: S1: Lee - 144.2dB S2: Corsa Boy - 143.9dB S3: Troublestarter - 144.6dB S5: Mega Heavy Bass - 150.4dB M/RSPL MR - Modified: M3: Adz - 133.7dB M6: GULA - 153.1dB (The U.Ks LOUDEST M.E.C.A. competitor) I think the format works very well. Our regular SPL competitors found it a lot more involved & fun than the other types of SPL comp that are usually run in the U.K. So. Another good thing to come across the pond from you guys Can`t wait to get my new S.I. subs ...
  11. Hmm. I have a 6.5" speaker in the door & one in the footwell. However the footwell one was just chucked in & is not sealed properly The one in the door doesn`t sound good either. I`ll mess about with trying to seal each of these units & see what difference it may make. If all goes well I may think about upgrading the 6.5" drivers. Otherwise I`ll make a small ported box which fits under the front seats for the 8" subs. The sub will fire upwards & the ports will fire directly into the front of the car. I`ll be doing it this way, in an attempt to keep the sound stage in the front of the car rather than in the rear. Thanks guys
  12. I should have no problems with BASS. But I`m worried about Mid Bass - punchyness. I do not want to use huge door builds & they will never sound right anyway. So I plan to use 4x 10" or 8" subs. To help the system sound better / seem more punchy - quick I`ll be feeding them about 250wrms each. So should I do this or what`s the best way to do it? BTW: I`m aiming for the system to play music @ 150dB+ 16 Cu.Ft. Box. Ported using 4x S.I. 15" Magnums. Thanks guys.
  13. Have installed: Alpine Btm of range 4v Pre out H`U` (I like simple Head Units) 2x PowerBass XA-3000D Running a single DD3515 at the moment. 1x RF 350s to run the fronts. 2 pairs of the old JBL GTO MKII 6.5" component sets. DVD player GameCube Kenwood E.Q. (to pass signal from G.C. & D.V.D. to amp) 7" Widescreen LCD 50 + sheets of dynamatt. 0 gauge throughout. 3x Redflash 3500 Batteries 1x 100 or 120 amp alternator (can`t remember what rating it is now) Preparing for / coming soon: 1x 1000w amp for MidBass (Don`t know which one I`m getting yet) Possibly 4x 8" subs for MidBass. (Again, don`t know which ones to get) 4x S.I. Magnum 15" subs in a 16 Cu.Ft. Box (Waiting for subs to be made - Already starting to build box) 17" Widescreen LCD
  14. Thanks Guys Just had a funny idea about getting some amps made up. Doesn`t seem like a good idea now. Oh well.
  15. It`s all sounding good to me Can`t wait to sell some of my stuff & order those subs. All my boxes are designed for use for SPL & STREETBASS. Larger port for SPL and a smaller area or longer one is inserted into the SPL port to tune the box lower for Listening. All corners have 3" - 45 deg angled fillets. All ports are also Flared at both ends. The reasons I`ve stopped with my current system is because: 1: I`m using so much power (being limited to 2 batteries etc) so I can really only burp now. 2: The subs start to get really smelly & hot after 5min 3: The system never looks neat, due to the box changes etc 4: I miss STREETBASS
  16. Cheers mate. That`s a huge box!! When I was competing in dB drag STREET C. I was using 2x DD3515 & 4x PowerBass XA-3000D The box was only 5.2 Cu.Ft. All corners rounded off too. The port I used was a rectangular one which was flared at both ends. Car peaked at 54Hz Box was tuned to 43Hz or so. So I needed to shorten the port. Which I didn`t get round to doing. Due to too small a box size & quite a large cabin area I will probably hit 152dB at the most. Currently at 150.4dB without changing the port & trying other box mods. I know I can get it louder. But I`ve other plans now.
  17. I was wondering... Are there any amps in production that have: Class A: Left & Right channels Class D: Power stage for a subwoofer. All in one package / Amp case? If there isn`t. Is there any reason why this couldn`t be done or hasn`t been done yet?
  18. I`m well impressed with these amps. I was using 4 of them in a Street C install on 2x DD3515 I know we haven`t use a clamp meter etc.(Forgive me guys) A strapped pair kicked out 158v into 1ohm @ roughly 14.4v @52Hz (Had the engine running whilst measuring Voltage at Amp Spkr terminals) We did an SPL comparison test with three other amps in a Street C car. Term Lab Sensor - dB drag position. 2x DD9915 / 2x Hawker SP2180 Batteries I will not name the other amps but the PBX was in the middle. We just used a single amp. Loaded down to 1/4 ohm. Engine off. 155.5dB - Amp A (This amp is used a lot in Europe - a bit unreliable though, many break down at events) 155.0dB - XA-3000D 154.8dB - Amp C (Another, very good American Amp)
  19. WOW!!! 155.3dB with 2x 15" subs (I`m assuming the BASS part of the system is all in the boot area) If you don`t mind me asking. Could you tell me if it`s a boot install - Wall - No-wall box - larger than standard box? Amazing score!! (To me anyway - Don`t forget I`m not from your neck of the woods) I hope to get as loud one day
  20. Thanks very much Nice to see a Port area that`s quite large. I`ve just seen this on the specs: Recommended enclosures: Sealed = 2.3 to 3 cubic feet. Vented = 3.5 cubic feet tuned to 27 Hz. Is the 27Hz tuned for extended Bass or is it the usual tuning freq for this type of sub? (I`m guessing Extended as it`s tuned so low) For SPL all I have to do is get the largest port area useable within the current box size which is tuned to around 43Hz. Due to the fact that The SPL port is always larger. The StreetBass port is the one that is usually slotted & secured into it.
  21. B) That`s Cool. Those subs should certainly pound with just two PowerBass Amps. I`m glad things seem to be working out for my new install. Yep you`re right. They`ll never actually receive the full wattage. At the moment I`m having problems with my current subs Bottoming out. Probably due to me trying to play low frequencies way below tuned level of the box. Have tuned my current box which contains 1x DD3515, to 30Hz & the problem has been sorted. Only thing is now, the Voice coils are getting hot. They really smell
  22. Can anybody recommend a ported box size for a single S.I. Magnum 15". I`m after STREETBASS / SQ For SPL I`ll insert a port bung Depending on box size, I`ll be getting 3 or 4 Magnums. I can easily fit a 16 Cu.Ft. No-Wall box in the car. Thanks in advance guys. Regards. Marcos
  23. The PowerBass XA-3000D kicks out 3000wrms @ 1ohm When strapped together they kick out 6200wrms @ 1ohm A friend of mine has loaded a single PowerBass XA-3000D down to 1/4 ohm & is hitting 155dB in a Street "C" car. Using 2x DD9915 - 4.2Cu.ft. Box - One single Redflash 3500 battery. We measured 158v from the strapped pair of XA`s. (Don`t know what this equates to wattage wise) Thanks for the replies guys. I`m now selling 2 of my powerbass amps to fund the S.I. Magnums. I will load the amps down if I fancy competing. So now I`ve decided to use 4 subs I`d better ask another question...
  24. Thanks for the welcome guys. My current system looks absolutely awful. Anyone on here who maybe competes in dB drag might have heard that at the Street Level of competition we in the U.K. & Europe are forever changing our installs or boxes to try & gain that little bit extra SPL score. Unfortunately that means that U.K. & Europes boot based SPL systems, although very LOUD, do not look very nice. I want the best of all worlds. SPL - STREETBASS - Nice looking system. I`ll try & post some pics of when my install was looking decent. (Not very good at this posting pics lark- so please be patient) I cant even play my current system for listening to music. I can only Burp & then charge up the batteries again. And then the subs get hot if played for longer than 5 mins at a decent volume level. A bit sad really. I thought a sound system was for listening. Not just going Barrrppp!!! Anyway that`s why I`m here. To learn about your products & then use them over here in the U.K. Thanks again guys.
  25. Hello again. O.K. I`m a DD user who`s about to jump ship. I have 4x PowerBass XA-3000D amps. Use to compete in dB drag Street "C" Anyway. I`m fed up now cos all I can do is turn up at a show, BURP & that`s it, battery charging again. So I`m ripping out my boot install & now want to have a No-Wall install using 4x S.I. Magnum 15" in a ported box tuned to 27Hz or so. I want some STREETBASS again A few questions though. Can the Magnums take a PowerBass amp each? I was actually planning to use just 2 PowerBass amps to power the 4x Subs. If they can take one amp each that would be something. Bear in mind that I want to turn up at a show & play the system LOUD & then if I feel like it, compete. Oh. The car it`s in is a 5 door Ford Escort. I know your Escorts are different in the states but in the U.K. the Escort is still a popular vehicle to modify etc and I assume the U.S & U.K. Escorts have roughly the same size cabin area. Thanks for any advice. Regards to all. Marcos
