What was "right" sized?

It's two ported 15's, one the GTI, the other is a Gcon. Again, caveat being that the box isn't anywhere near ideal. Still rather impressive.

Dropping to a 12" will maintain a flat response WAY deeper, but I don't know that i care.

And the smooth one in the middle of it all that is well balanced is the old school GTI with half the power. Of course it's basically a pro audio driver so it makes sense.

And the peak in the middle shows a whopping 3dB of separation. NONE of the drivers are in anywhere near ideal boxes.

What are you using for power? Something small. Probably a Polk Audio, 1200w @1ohm little guy.

Not so sure you understand sound reinforcement. Just blindly following recommendations doesn't tell the story. I am ALWAYS one to preach to maintain, but for efficiency for on the water I'll break my own ideals. Obviously if I had more space I'd use it. Real problem with the 18'" is that it would hang over my box by 1/16" on both sides if Mark's measurements are right.

My Kicker is out since I am using pro audio mids I can't handle the high frequency roll off. The RLp or Mach5 don't have enough output in the space I have which leaves me modeling.

Not so amusingly with half the power my old school 1500gti is within 3dB of anything else. If it didn't thermally die with double the power it would win nearly across the board. Fucking paper and folded paper surround though so it really won't live in the boat....still tempted.

fuCK. 3.7 cubes is what I'll get...and that's gross. When not going for lows it's funny to see how an 18" Xcon handles the small space.

I'd say your future as a researcher depends solely on your field of interest and what niche you yourself will partake in it.

Aaron, don't sell the Icon short. Depending on the box it could very easily be louder at all frequencies. If not, it would just be a rather narrow band where the L7 could have more output and it isn't such an audible amount. The L7 is SUPER box dependent so anyone generically recommending it needs to have their head checked.

Wish....and now the inside is tore up. I am going to take my lunch at the boat though. Munch a sandwich and paint the cooler I installed in 30min...maybe some cardboard mocking as well.
