The only reason I'd rewire into the door is if I were running two+ sets of wire into the door. Considering I am flat out pretty opposed to any comp set this means I always get to. If I was using something passive and had a good spot for the passive in the door then there is no way I'd bother. The stock wiring is really fine.

I regularly tape. Works great to insulate my solder joints when I forget the shrink wrap.
