Welcome to the IHoP
Need help from the smart guys. I've got a crazy idea for an enclosure. Originally I thought about making it concentric, but think it'll look better if it is offset. Basically taking two pieces of PVC, using the table saw to notch out the center and then fitting an enclosure in between. The outer ring is a 10" piece of PVC, the inner an 8". This would be for an 8" midbass. The little square in the middle is a 5.1" square horn. Obviously the boxed portion will get boxed and baffles and such will be applied to the 8. I left those faces off though as I have one "little"conundrum with it. The box portion needs to attach to both rings to hold them appropriately. That is easy for the 8" tube as the baffles will be notched so that the enclosure walls meet it. The 10" however is not so easy. The back wall is fine since the "box" will extend to it. This leaves me needing one other way/place to attach the 10" tube somehow. Any ideas? All of mine are a shit ton of work and for a box that is so simple I'd like to avoid it. Yes the 10" will be the port. Sure I could run sealed, but the mids I have chosen will roll off HARD starting at 200hz and for midbass that is weak. (down 10dB by 70Hz ) WIth a port I can get the 3dB point to 85Hz or so which buys a ton in the application especially considering that I will have no issues crossing the sub over high in this install. The sealed was a 10" the ported 8" as I can't fit a big enough enclosure to port the 10's which would be ideal. 4 8's ought to be pretty reasonable anyways. So here's a pic in sketchup of the skeletal portion of the enclosure. Any thoughts on attaching the "front" part of the 10" pvc?

Hmmm, W18 + FF85k in the Jeep ? Truthfully you'd be better off with the ER's or CA's. The extra clarity in the lower midrange of the Excel isn't really the right thing to compromise in a car. CA's would have been my second option. I wonder if they are an improvement over the Mach 5 MLI's. I guess I should try mine one day since I think they use the same mounting hole... Huge improvement in every aspect.

Bang for Buck Shallow Mount Sub. 10's
videos won't EVER show you anything useful in a speaker. I am a little concerned at the mounting location which you haven't described. Just because a woofer will "fit" doesn't mean it will work.

Not sure, not made anymore. 3/4" Ring Radiator. Great tweet, superb off axis, but doesn't play super low. Is this an easy tweeter to tame? I don't think I would have much problem finding a 6.5 to play up to them and mid is literally in the top front corner of the door. Not much to tame. Works well, pretty easy on aiming and flexible for poor mounting locations. Only disadvantage is the higher Fs, but that is made up for in off axis response. The ring radiator design works really well.

Interesting news. I poured a ton of time and energy into helping him grow Mach5, we made nothing on the product and I mean ZERO. He was a good guy, but as soon as he thought it was a good idea to team up with Sound Digital (who have a hard on for Stetsom), then tells me Mach5 is getting out of the industry and to take down the section. Only to see a couple months later, there is a section up on CrapCo..... now he is done with it? After Stereo Integrity and Mach5 pulled that, I am no longer helping another brand because there is ZERO loyalty or gratitude in this stupid bullshit dance. That is no suprise. The guys on HTF seems to hug his nut too. Scourge of death to be reveled there it seems. The Rlp15 first then the Mach. Neither owner seems is so much in the business anymore. The Mark thing confused me a shit ton. I met him and surely didn't see anything like that coming. Something must have flipped...

I don't disagree. I've seen enough of his posts to warn him. I was just stating there are more fun and productive ways to make people uncomfortable.

Funny I bought the Ridgid version of that a couple weeks ago. Still trying to decide if I keep it. The lifetime warranty on batteries is worth something since that is what always goes...

Sorry to hear that you guys got the short end of the stick there. Unfortunately people have become increasingly ungrateful for people giving them some help or a fair shot. I know I have been guilty of that before myself. J It's ok. Mark warned me. It was my morals and good nature that has continued to get in the way of our business growth. Compromise your morals for money and see if you can look your kid in the eye or yourself in the mirror. At the end of the day, yes it is a business and must be ran as such, but you cannot violate your own ethics for profit. J You mean like Skar?

Cool, think I'm getting there. Now I need to pick a horn body for projecting 50-70' back.

looking for 8" free air suggestions
NOTHING will sound good "free air" If you meant Infinite Baffle, then okay things can sound good but you'll need A LOT more cone area than an 8.

New "SQL" system for a metalhead - Right direction?
Nothing is ever a good solution for everyone, that is why I specifically asked about his mounting locations. Not even sure what today's idea of a metal head would be, but I did play lead guitar in a cover band that played a crap ton of Metallica, Megadeth, Ozzy and such in 1989-92.

Fuck, so they are going to answer. I am scared to hear the quote and excited all at the same time. If I do those I am going to have to find some seriously pretty clamps to hold them onto the tower.

Why not just build one large enclosure out of FG? Cosmetic reasons only. I will probably connect the two "tube" enclosures with the one for the horn. You can cosmetically construct them any way you want, or do you not have time for that much detailed work? I'd like to do them in a day. Many other projects that I need to tackle.
