Speaking of one of those meals, did I post the menu I made for Christmas here?

Some of us periodically blow $300 on dinner though. Although the period is probably in the femtoHz range.

I wouldn't worry about it to much. I would be amazed if they rusted through in the lifetime of the car. Agreed but it seems like every site I looked at today has been swearing that header wrap is the worst thing since Cancer. J I used it on my LTs on my Cobra and never had any issues. They're still on there too, although they were SS so that helps. I wouldn't worry about rust. I am sorry for the lack of knowledge but what do you mean by LTs and SS? J Long Tubes and Stainless Steel. I am not 110% sure of the material mine are made of. I thought about having them jet-hot treated. J You will quickly get to the law of diminishing returns in that car. Just trying to control under the hood heat. Hopefully prevent more melted wires too. If it looks good while its serving its main purpose then I am all for it. J You misunderstood. Spending a bunch of money on that car is sort of like spending it on dinner. It's good while you have it, but it's gone.

Ah, you found Step 1. I guess its actually step 2, because step 1 is "i needs more money" lol Determining the need is the step. Should happen before subs. Answers Teo's question as well

You could fart in an empty box and sell it as Eau de Steve and people on there would buy it.

That car will be a MESS to sound deaden. Just wasn't built well enough to make much headway. In my Silverado it quickly became apparent that to improve anything I'd have to do something with all the window and door seals as they were terrible and its worlds better than your bird. I figured it would be. I have something like 60 sq ft of Second Skin (I know the feelings towards that brand's history here) just sitting on the shelf. My thoughts were if I layered the floor and door panels (inside part of the outer sheet metal) that I MIGHT be able to get some of that road noise to go away. I am not expecting that distinctive THUD when the doors shut, but perhaps a little bit better road noise blocking. J Always start with the problem. What do you mean by road noise/ Ok music is down, and I just put the transmission in N as I approach the stop signs. I can hear the little pebbles pop up and hit the undercarriage, hear the rumble of the car passing over the mediocre, smooth asphalt. Its that rumble I want gone. I can hear it even more with the T-tops on and windows up. I guess what I am after is just wanting to make it so I am hearing the motor and/or the music more than the ambient noise around me. J The pebbles you can be rid of, the rumble requires new exhaust.

I cannot say enough at how much a difference it was when we thinsulated my roof. Was huge for this super cold, curious as to how it will do with the very hot days. I can make it almost all the way to work and there will be frost still on the top because most of the heat from the cabin did not make it up. Did insulating the roof help with road noise or just help trap the sound in the car? I believe my next step is going to be filling the a-pillar base with expanding foam. I think there is alot of road noise traveling up from the front fender through the open camber inside that area of the car body. Even though there is no mass, thinsulate works like MLV as an absorber. The long fibers are a bit "magic". So would the old standby CLD + CCF + MLV be improved by substituting the Thinsulate for the MLV? or by substituting the Thinsulate for the CCF? or by adding Thinsulate to the party? Thinsulate needs to be used in the "other" direction. It REALLY excels when the waves have to travel along it instead of right through it.

I wouldn't do that either...but you asked for my thoughts so I answered with them. My more serious response is the one below that one

That one doesn't have the stretch so its a no go....otherwise I'd be driving down there RIGHT now.

Oh, as for the SD portion. Mass is your friend. The frequency content you are trying to block is not in the efficiency range of fibers.

Way before it was available in the aftermarket. Still have a bunch and access to a ton more. Sean, I have a plan on walling of my Celica. Either 2x15 or 2x18. With that much power I have another plan-reinforcing the whole roof with plywood. Thinking about filling all the little voids between the plywood and the roof with either polyfill or clothes batting(have a lot of this). Thoughts? Don't wall

I think there is alot of road noise traveling up from the front fender through the open camber inside that area of the car body. It did help, yes, but there is also 12 CLD tiles up there too. This is my first non-sunroof car I have owned, so a long un-interrupted surface on the roof can act as a source in a way. From a semi-psychological stand point, all the work done on the car with SDS that caused such good isolation from the outside, really makes the inside feel more cozy and welcoming. Not sure how else to explain it. It is all totally hidden, but when there is so much less presence from what is around you, there is a feeling of being wrapped up in the car. Kind of like a really warm winter jacket. Similar, but different in a mental way from the sled, as it was a big heavy vault like sleeping giant. Background noise is cold

I have an NDA so for more details you'll have to ask someone else but that being said, it works REALLY well in the applications it is meant for.

  25. Those aren't audiophiles, lol. I've stated this before and so far NO ONE has refuted it because they can't. There is no use for it. It does absolutely no good. Offer me a valid use and I'll gladly change my opinion. Let's start with you telling us what and why you'd use it. As for why knock on something you haven't used. Perhaps you should ask the question the other way. Why are so many people praising something that they have no idea what it does, why or what use it could be? Also, take a look at those that knock it. They have something in common. A fundamental understanding of electronics. The ones that use it, don't.
