Sean will like that idea Actually I'd rather see a ridiculously lightweight something with shitloads of power. A high revving lightweight 6/8 is more than fine with tha BOOST. What makes that car so desirable to you? You don't hear much about them, are they a good platform to build upon or something? I can get one from the year I was born, I prefer the look of them to any exotic from the non-super modern era, the drivetrain is vanilla Ford and easily and cheaply tweaked, they outhandle a Lotus Espirit stock for stock and there are ton of improvements that are easy to make, the dashboard is ultra easily shaped to make a more modern custom one, I "can" fit in one (with modifications - ie, dropping the floor a few inches), huge rubber fits in stock format, the ZF trans is pretty bulletproof, and they are just flat out sexy IMO. There is one Pantera around here with the 351 Windsor. Very sexy car and is suprisingly fast. I don't know if any modifications have been done to it. It looks completely stock in and out. Cleveland, not W.

They do look really good. It's a perfect project car is what I'm taking away from this. Thanks for breaking it down, I was mostly curious why that as opposed to what else is out there. I am open to other things, what could they be? Oh and cheap is on the list to
  3. Not sure on the kicker, but the best midbasses I've ever heard have been subwoofers. For it to truly be run as a midbass though you should run them up front.

How about an array of 2's going up the pillar?

No. And changing comp sets isn't the best way to get their either.

Online reviews are completely worthless unless they have measurement data or are comparing with another something and describing the differences. I am sure there is nothing special about them and you could easily mimic their quality with some el cheapo raw drivers from PE/Madisound.

Ha, cheat sheet/open book are the same to me. And of course they aren't harder if the prof sucks.
  10. ///M5 replied to mrray13's topic in Off Topic
Open book tests are always harder.

I used to work on my old specialized. Cool. I just don't want to recommend a piece of ultra quality gear that needs trivial work that'll set you back a bunch beyond the purchase price. Parts are cheap if you know where to shop

There is a rockhopper on craigslist for a bearable price at the same size as my old beauty. What did you have, what size do you think you need, and what price? I had a Rockhopper, heavy but durable bike that lasted me a long time. Size wise I am between a 19" and 20". Price, I would like to stay under $250 as I am not able to ride as serious as I used to, don't have the cash to really invest in something serious, and just need something quality and durable like my old Specialized. Suspension or no? Preferred type of shifters? Maybe front forks, but not necessarily needed. Shimano Is it the top tube or standover that puts you on the 20"? Good question, I think it was top tube. I cannot believe how far I have fallen out of the know on mountain bikes with how much I used to ride. An old Breezer Lightning with some XTR shouldn't be terribly far out of your budget, one with XT will fit. not a pristine one, but then you won't feel bad riding it.

Isn't that backwards? No one is stopping you so go do it Sean fucking with me. Don't let it bother you. Just go relax. Really.

    a bunch of nonsense mostly

You ever fixed anything on a bike? Or have a friend who does? Mostly wondering as having that person peak at the bike with you wouldn't hurt...unless of course its you then it really won't hurt. Although its pretty easy and your biggest concern are the wheels & shifting which are easy to test. EVERY spoke should sound the same when you pluck them. Amusingly that is more important than them being straight. And when old shifters wear you have to get newer ones, lol. Shimano's are disposable, not rebuildable but luckily nearly universal so there are tons of swaps.

I'm gonna recommend some retro steel if you were into your RockHopper. For that dough we should be able to shed weight too.

That would be epic, banning his cousin lol. Hear both sides first not just the deyoungs. Didn't you share yours with me in PM? If so, I would have guessed you were his nephew.

Bars too low, top tube too long both create back problems. Strange saddle positions as well.

Dad just got a new trek 29er, different geometry, doesn't have as much back issues now. Back issues are from a bad fit, not the new geometry. Well he went from a 17.5" frame 26" wheel to a 19" frame 29" wheel and it's an improvement. Either way the new bike is nice, we looked locally and didn't find anything decent for sale to be honest. Frame and wheel size are independent of fit. Lots of different ways to fit a bike, but his back was sore from his position on the frame not the geometry. Geometry affects handling, not fit (ie you can fit any geometry as long as you pick the right size -- within reason of course as someone might make a custom frame that has an absolutely stupid geometry but I think you get the point).
  24. Did you actually search ANYWHERE? http://www.amazon.com/Loudspeaker-Design-Cookbook-Vance-Dickason/dp/1882580478/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1315855920&sr=8-1 The a 4th order BP is stupid and one that is poorly designed is asinine. Quite literally, we can still make it a 4th order vented and scrap the bp idea. But what would we be gaining? Output and response, but if you can design a 4th order then you'd know that. Add to that you'd gain EVERYTHING since a poorly implemented BP is terrible.
