  5. The problem with not is that in the price range you are looking at ALL the sets make large compromises and no matter of verbage is going to let you know what that is. Taking the lazy approach of just buying something off the net based on some random person's "I have this and I love them" response isn't going to be your best deal. Much better to spend some time with your ears listening and then to make the decision.

I wish. Thursday I will be in a dyno lab at Polaris making measurements.
  9. Efficient & Midbass are opposites normally. Dull tweeters is an interesting description, but in your budget perhaps valid. Be wary of cheap metal with wimpy crossovers. $80-100 isn't going to net you anything particularly special, even $150. At those prices you really should just go to the store and listen and decide from there. Flat eq and car install is usually counterproductive. There are always anomalies you should eq down/out. And cheap sets will probably require more work in this domain than something good. 2ohm and not running at heat are extremely opposite. Add to that the 2ohm drivers won't gain you much as they will lose it in efficiency anyways. So, what should you do? Go listen to some things in your price range and buy them. You will have to either compromise on midbass or output and will have some other compromises as well. Really hard to outline all of them with no background on what sounds good to you. After listening to some feel free to post your thoughts and perhaps it can be narrowed down further.
  10. You sure you need to unplug/plug the fuse or is just wiggling that wire solving it? Curious if it is the switched on or always on.

Somewhat curious question here. On my Yahoo email my profile shows up with a picture of a red M5, but I don't think I added that picture. Am I nuts?

I'd have to do a lot more than that to stay awake that long.

  17. My guess is that the little set of contacts that connect the faceplate to the headunit aren't lined up right or aren't connecting well. Obviously if the fuse portion is super repeatable then my guess is wrong, but I figure that was just something you checked at the same time of moving the faceplate around.
  18. Show me a video of an SA-8 mounted IB doing wonders. And no, not some stupid useless excursion video. By no means am I knocking the driver, but in general 8" subs don't usually make a lot of sense. A 10" takes nearly only the same space sealed or ported and has a huge cone advantage. There is no SQ disadvantage either and in fact a larger driver in general will do better at the same output levels as it doesn't have to move as much to make the same output. IMO it is a VERY rare application where the 8 is a better choice and this gets even more so when you are talking about a single driver. Obviously it is space that defines this, but again its a miniscule difference.
  19. Before sanding I'd see if you can just use some compound and a buffer. Most of that should buff out. Of course if its real gone you are going to have to sand. Think about the price of the car and then realize that is what paint will cost (if I know which car it is). A worthy paint job is not cheap and one that isn't won't look as good as a nice buff/sand, polish, wax, etc.
  20. Not at all. No way no how. Small Sd drivers and IB are not a good idea if you ever turn it up at all. Heck not a good idea if you just listen normally. You are going to need more cone area. If you are willing to do a box, why not a single 10? Most likely it won't take up anymore space and will have significantly more capability.

Indeed, NOT at all casual listening music. You have to pay attention. That is until you are familiar

    Que?

I always do. I usually read reviews to be sure the build is ok and there are no annoying quirks though. There's bug fixes and sometimes HUGE upgrades to the device. OS 6 for BB added a webkit browser which was 1000000x faster than the old slow POS one. In cases like that an upgrade is a no brainer for me If it fixes something then I'd agree and yes there are things to fix on my droid, but its mostly just some rebooting which occurs every few days and keeps me from having to do it
