Don't bother with the M. The catastrophe you will have in reliability is just not worth it and the 5.0 is ridiculously effective. 3 stop lights in a row a Lambo couldn't leave me. AWD and torque are awesome. I am a HUGE M fan, but these days the possibility of ridiculous repair bills make them unobtanium. Damn AMG taught me that. ...of course I still really NEED an S8.

As long as you get it up to final temp all is ok. Can always tell because a fork will tear it.

Have to say I enjoyed driving the X6 5.0 around...almost enough to where I wish I would have done that instead of the big ugly.

In general 16v is a ridiculous idea. Without understanding why and what you want to accomplish no one should support it. It is a bunch of work, a crapton of money and potentially for your needs (don't know what they are) it might buy you jack shit. There is a time and place for all things ridiculous, but going so far to need to raise the running voltage should require something rather needy.

My son gave me the "I don't want to play soccer anymore" right before practice. WTF. $800 and I volunteer to coach. He had SO MUCH fun last year as well. Hope that shifts this weekend. He has a game on Saturday, his brother a game, then we go to the MN Loons game at night. Sunday Aidan has 3 more games. This will either turn him or make him hate it. I am hoping he has fun.
