  1. Your goals are different and independent from the reasons I cited above. Regularly a dead enclosure (read well built, braced, etc..) won't be as loud as a poorly built one. It will completely depend on its signature resonance which you can predict, but will require some serious Finite Element software and even then regularly need some real world measurements to optimize. Considering a single sheet of Oak at $66 is too expensive then the whole process of changing materials will be as well as you will have to experiment many times to gain tenths. No golden rule here.
  2. The depth will be the killer, you'll have to measure. They will be louder, but they will sound like complete ass at the same time.
  3. The S4 was the "noisiest" car I have driven that I am looking at. Of course, I am only looking at high-end cars so that threshold is still rather high. Either way, its a great car I haven't pulled the door on one, nor seen a major install. Without really seeing the inside of the cavity it is tough to determine really what you can and cannot do. Have you found any pictures online of anyone who has done anything to one? The A4 should be the same as well and someone has to have put something at least in one of those. As you know, I hate to give generic solutions when something specific would be more appropriate. Knowing really what we could fit would really help. Bummer on the car seat, I sort of figured. It is the smallest vehicle I am considering and you pretty much just summed up and confirmed my concern. I need a family car that is still fun. That could have meant keeping the 1991, but I have a really hard time doing anything to possibly mar that car in anyway and a babyseat is a quick way of helping that happen.
  4. Structural Integrity is the name of the game. Particle board sucks for it, MDF is pretty good, and Void Free 11+ layer ply is extremely good for it. None of them preclude the necessity of bracing though, but some materials make it much easier. Look at B&W Matrix bracing and realize that is exactly how a speaker should look. Obviously the layout of the bracing can vary, but theirs is NOT overkill.

Neat idea, but I'd have to upgrade to an insulated smoker before I could try; usually takes 3-5 hours to fully render the fat, and on the Brinkmann that would require a second batch of coals I smoke at 200-225 depending on how fast I need the food, but had never thought of "catching the fat" and using it.
  8. Not sure what exactly yet, but definitely a new ride. Keep going back between some utility and none at all. It will have four doors though as my 15mo old needs his seat also.

    Riding dirty?
  10. As you already determined, DO NOT EYEBALL, but use a scope if you have to make them match. I would also strap, but still use a scope and make sure your supply voltage is strong enough to support those amps!
  11. Way cheaper and more effective to buy a new amplifier that is meant to run on AC
  12. Definitely mount them to the metal (using a baffle) and don't bother with the Ensolite it is ONLY good for stopping rattling between two surfaces that are rubbing each other. Nearly any foam will do that.
  13. Truckin' along, 300 mph
  14. The S4 is not quiet. I've driven a few of them as an RS4 is on my laundry lists of things that I might pick up in the next few months. If you are going to run active DO NOT buy an off the shelf component set, no need to make the compromises associated with them. On top of that, personally I think that Focal set sounds like something that costs 1/10th of what they charge. Mounting to the door card isn't a good idea, no matter how stiff you think they are. (they aren't btw) Instead you either need to get into that car and really do some work or get ready to not really improve what you already have. I'll be the first to say I don't really like the Bose system in there, but at the same time they spent a lot of time and engineering work to maximize its effectiveness in its install which to beat means you need to improve the install more than anything. If you aren't willing to build baffles, cut the door card and so on I wouldn't really expect much of a gain. Although I'd agree on spending time with your 6mo old son. I have a question for you. I am 6'7" and fit in the RS4 easily, but also have a toddler (15mo). How does the car seat fit behind you?
  15. Definitely NOT a good idea. It will completely defeat the purpose of a 3 way, you should find a way to get everything up front.
  16. 4" driver will distort VERY easily with any bass. You need to raise their HP point.
  17. EVERY person that has told me that changes their tune instantly when hearing a properly setup 2 chn system. With no exceptions. Be careful thinking you know what you want without experiencing the other. In particular since your request was for SQ.

80 psi?! that alot of presure! I only put 30 psi in mine, but then again it's not a road bike. I run 120 in my front and 130 in my rear tires on my bike. My mountain bike gets 65. I HATE pinch flats.

Ever left the cap on in the smoker and rendered afterwards? Smoky tallow might be an interesting addition to a lot of dishes. I've never, but considering you are in Texas...

I owned an Audi in the early 90's and I fucking hated that car. MOSTLY because of only one rear window working by the time I sold the POS. the relays where like 150 each window. It was my ex W's car, SO now I am kinda glad looking back. That bich is the reason I don't have a 76' Firebird too now that I think about it. SAY LA VIE. BTW thats the car that turned me off to German cars. And had you bought the same era BMW, you'd have the opposite feelings. Terrible years for Audi.
