Welcome to the IHoP
i'm with you sean, my cousin's husband is a lobster fisherman here in town so i get fresh lobbies from time to time too. i'm positive you can get our local halibuts as well as striped, calico and sea bass that comes in at stearns wharf year round. i think you would really dig Bouchon and Elements, they're the two best restaurants in town imo. bouchon is a more traditional french/californian and elements is a fresco fusion style california cuisine, both restaurants have the philosophy you look for in food; only local, seasonal and fresh ingredients. http://www.bouchonsantabarbara.com/ http://www.elementsrestaurantandbar.com/index.html bookmark them in your blackberry or something Bookmarked

what fish do you have that are local right now? i'm not sure what's in season and that sort of thing but we seem to have an endless supply of fresh caught assorted bass and halibut as well as crustaceons and shellfish. apparently they even catch salmon, bonita, barracuda and yellowfins off the channel islands here. You'd be surprised how much of that is flown in... probably everything except the fish marked "fresh local" but even then some restaurants have a little trouble telling the truth. most of the salmon i've had lately was scottish farm salmon. And by Scottish it was probably Chilean or Norwegian as together they produce nearly 80% of the world's salmon Didn't mean to pick on you with the local, I am curious as I get the "we live next to the great ocean" from my colleagues in Orange County all the time stating no good fish is found in MN. I get amused when they don't know a single locally caught fish so ie they are eating flown in fish as well. My question to you was serious as the next time I am in the area it is what I will eat

Welcome to the IHoP
I'll share some so you don't feel so alone. Got a call today from my mom, she said my aunt that beat breast cancer 7-8 years ago has cancer again. This time it's in her lungs, blood, lymph nodes, and bones, and is terminal. I guess the only thing they can do is give her a little bit of treatment to keep it from going to her brain as long as possible, which is inevitable and is the lethal part. They said likely 12-15 months. At first I was sad, obviously. Then as she told me more details, like how she has gotten PET scans every two years (that's how they found this, saw the bumps in her lungs) and chemo pills or shots or something every couple of months since her breast cancer days, I became more pissed at the doctors for not catching it earlier, perhaps when it was still treatable. It seems to me that if it's already in four different systems, that it's had a bit of time to manifest (granted some cancers move fast), and I just thought that a PET scan only every 2 years was very inadequate for somebody who had just beaten cancer in their 40s. That is tough. My grams needs to pass on when she is ready. Her mind is in a different place, she is sometimes really cryptic when I visit and sometimes cruel, and doesn't have a shade of an idea of who I am anymore I don't think. Once every 101464894564698465418965146th visit or so though she will smile when some one visits and just says hi and that I think for a nano second she knows she's loved. Her body and heart are outlasting her mind in this case. She is 96 though. I'm preped for her to pass away, it won't hurt less, but at least I'm braced. The womans wake I went to on Sunday was too munch gravity as I'm still quite shocked. No one outside of MN probably heard but there was a murder suicide a ways north of where I live. The husband strangled his wife in front of his daughter(s) then hanged himself in the pole barn. I spent quite a few evening in that pole barn and on their property with many of my friends, one whom was brother to the woman who was choked. I'm still in shock really. I can't say anything without being cliche as to how weird it is what happened. oh shit that's fucking terrible. sorry you have to experience that mang. you always here stories like that and are thankful that it isn't someone you know, it really sucks when it is.

You've never had good KC then. Not knockin' blues, but just as with any sort of water bug the legs/claws > body/tail meat.

Oh, and dB sometime just for yourself get some of the Bristol Bay Crab legs. Cooked & Frozen on the boat. Only frozen ONCE as well, most other king crab legs are frozen/thawed at least 5 times. It makes a HUGE difference.

I never saw the quicksilver comment before, interesting. Conveniently the coop that is right next to my house gets their fish regularly from Coastal, but I still prefer the source...A LOT.

no doubt. Shell fish is so amazing. The wife may be alergic. She had some shellfish when she was younger and broke into a hive like situation. If I had an alergy to shellfish I would suck it up, take a benedryl on the rocks and then go nuts on the scallops anyway. On my 1st anniversary I had a reaction to Oysters. Went in for the full gamut of tests and find out I am not allergic to anything other than ragweed and cats. Oh my god, Sean is allergic to pussy?!?!?! Hell hath frozen over!! rofl, I guess I shouldn't eat it

She said the tests show nothing, but my sinuses are jacked eyes water, and throat gets a "closed tight" feeling. But she assured me it's not alergies. She would like to try good shell fish again... Where can I get the freshest locally Sean? Scallops crab/lobster maybe mussels(those would be all me though I bet. I want to get the freshest just to ease her into seafood. Maybe make my life better in the long run if she isn't alergic as she thinks and actually enjoys it. I love shellfish so much myself, even fresh frozen works. Frozen scallops that end up a bit over cooked still taste like the food of the gods to me. It's not on the same level as perfectly done fresh, but I'm such a seafood whore I'm just happy to be eating it. Warning, you'll hate me for this link http://www.coastalseafoods.com/ On Minnehaha, south of 94 a dozen+ blocks. Do yourself a favor while in there, ask them what they think is good. No matter what they recommend they are always right. I drive there weekly and it is probably closer to you, perhaps halfway or so.

Cheaper then a shrink. and healthier than repeating last sunday every night. Last Sunday sounded fine to me other than the $400 at a cheap establishment.

Indeed you can't hear 2dB, but if its truly perceived as quieter you need to turn it down more or you'll be deaf well before your time.
