  1. Ever heard both? One has an Xmax of 27.4 and the other of 22. In theory, the RL-P18 would be cleaner at 22 than the IXL at 22mm because one is reaching xmax whereas the other still has some way to go. I own an Rlp and have had an IXL for longer than they have been available for sale. So yes I have heard both, lol. Quoting an Xmax spec is not helping your argument. Not at all. Then what oh mighty god would quantify that the RL-P sounds cleaner? Oh right, thats entirely subjective and therefore cannot be compared anywhere at any time. Then how does the LMS sound so much cleaner than any other sub out there? Ikka's sub testing from the Home Theater Shack comes to mind... Which one sounds better to you then? Or is there no difference? Xmax has nothing to do with cleaner or better. Nothing. You stated: and I said I am not sure that I would agree. In my installation, the IXL sounds better. I never said you were wrong, just that I didn't agree with your blanket statement.

Here in PA? No, engineering HQ in Milwaukee.
  3. And that is very, very far from an SQ setup. Your terminology is very confused. I would also expect that your idea of deep bass is as well. A BL will EASILY play low enough for you.

Figure of speech, but in reference to believing that your "research" will equate to reality in the car. So then you have experience with these enclosures in a vehicle? Nope, don't need any. Professional engineers can't make a model that matches reality and you expect to? If not, I might not have a job. And yet engineers still make and use models. I never said anywhere that I expect to match reality, isn't that what your supposed to do. Create a design, test the design, make changes to improve the design, test new design, etc. And the smart ones never use on the model for production Glad you are into the make, test, and change. Here is your first step. Build two simple ported boxes; one with a straight port and one with a labyrinth port. Measure their response and correct your model. It will be enlightening.

Note, by model I meant any mechanical model with more than just a couple DOF's not only speaker related. In the case here the model would have to include the car. Good luck, the big 3 sure fail at it.

  9. I think a driver other than the Q will fit your needs better. Using an AQ amp with a Q

  11. FOSHOOO So you bought a 3000 watt amp and 2 Nightshade's to be quiet? He probably did it for his enjoyment and his hatred for his sense of hearing (lol), not to solely make people turn their heads as he drives by. word lol. That gotta be crazzy loud. I personally know what they meant with their point of being respectfull with the volume. I personally turn mine down at lights and keep it low in the neighborhood at night, but there was no reason to bash on the kid and be a total d!ck. He tells the kid to grow up and yet speaks about the size of the kids penis wtf lol. What other reason would you have to annoy others with playing music loud so they have to hear it. The only possible is to show off, ie to compensate for a lack of self worth.
  12. Oh yeah, and Ford >>> bowtie crap

  14. Your goal doesn't match your reality. Stop with the ellipses. Also, stop comparing things. Instead perhaps share some facts about your install, budget, and limitations. The only thing I can tell from your whole thread right now is that if you do what you are planning to it will fail. Neither company deserve an acronym, sorry. Either way the OP referred to Polk Audio. I'll just refer to crap now and leave out the PA as it is assumed with both of them.

It is an ABC(aperiodic bi-chamber) box, you may not be able to see it well but there is a chamber between the port on the back wall and the port on the left side. I see it now. What are the benefits of this type of enclosure? Flatter response? What is it tuned to? From my research you get a wider range of efficiency over a regular ported enclosure, more cone control over the range. The chamber that houses the driver is 31hz while the small chamber next to it is 72hz both chambers combined is 40.5hz. The down side of them they are huge, weigh a ton, and are more difficult to build. I built one before that should work for my Flatlyne, this one is a little more in depth though. I need to get a mic so I can see what they are really doing. Here is the one I built before. Keep drinking "that" kool-aid if you think your installation in a vehicle is going to be the same as your plan.

I thought you said you were going to make it sound good? He wants to keep it looking stock Easy to do without using the oxymoron you state as headunit power. Never a good idea.

  21. Good to hear there is extra room for 8's not in the doors. I'd agree that there are so many things that can rattle and annoy you in the door it is far from ideal, but as you alude to without major surgery it is tough to put them anywhere else
  22. no i wish...i can get a good deal for the front stage Then your goals aren't going to fit the requirements. If you truly want SQ or Loud SQ you should really spend MORE or at least as much on your front stage. In a true SQ setup, the sub is trivial to say the least.

  25. The only thing I can relay from this thread is if you build the box you propose for those 15's they will sound like shit.
