x2 Pics!^^^ Regrettably no pics of that
  2. Kelvin, I just wanted to be sure to clarify as there is a lot of misinformation on the interwebz. Hopefully our discussion is helpful for others in the same situation. Ryan, as for some drivers. Here is a quick list. To narrow this down we should talk about aiming, processing and power. I know you have the 880 which will work well for this, but the amp will need some capabilities as well to take care of the "3rd" driver. Many other options as well, but these are all can't misses although that doesn't mean that they will all play nice with each other. I left off the Scan 12m even though it would be my personal pick as the buy in price is too high. A pair used typically go from $300-400 which would leave you with not much for the rest of the stage. If you were to find a pair for $300 though we could do the midbass and tweets with the remaining. Take a peak at some of the drawings of the drivers and hang out in your kicks and see how far off axis they will be. Some of these drivers are significantly better off axis than others. For example in the tweets, the XT19's are sweet but the farther off axis you go the less desirable they are if this was truly the case the LPG's are stellar off axis performers but I wouldn't run them on axis in my car. No worries on aiming for the midbass. I gave you some hefty options since you are not going to be running any sub. If you were we could lighten these a bit on the low end and save your doors some of the murder that you are going to apply to them, but personally I like the route you are going Tweet: Seas Neo $32 http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...products_id=633 LPG 25nfa $43 http://www.madisound.com/catalog/index.php...acturers_id=138 Vifa XT 19 $41 http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...roducts_id=1179 Morel MDT 29 $49 http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...products_id=567 Peerless HDS Tweeter $78 http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...roducts_id=1744 Midrange: Peerless 3

Cool. Don't forget to take your flooring and cabinetry into account. The lady we bought our house from put in some gorgeous green granite, but with white cabinets it is a bitch to find a natural floor that looks good with it.

I figured, but still it isn't the way I normally work. Gonna be fun
  5. He doesn't and there are all sorts of things wrong with what he is proposing to do. I don't like the slopes, the frequencies, the lack of underlap, and they don't fit well with the driver choice. Somewhere along the line he has been misinformed by someone on how this works. shows what you know In home baffle crossover wouldn't look anything at all like in car and assuming it would be similar is amusing.

Don't construe that SQ means "as good as possible", both are subjective and usually when described that way the person doing the describing is really asking for output. Perhaps output that doesn't sound like shit, but output nonetheless.
  7. makes me wonder why there is a 12", 15", and especially an 18" Q then I never said a 10" was the best choice for all SQ installs, just that it would have enough output to be able to blend nicely and work. Depending on the application there are multitudes of reasons to using other sizes of woofers, but it isn't to "keep up".
  8. ///M5 replied to Michael914's topic in Fi Products
hmmmm.... makes me wonder why there's even a Q line then Because some people are actually into acoustic reproduction and not just on being loud. There is a market for SQ woofers or ones that are a compromise between SQ and SPL; however, it is a friggin' shame that 80% who think they should buy a Q are for reasons that they think they want SQ but loud. The number of Q vs BL questions is ridiculous and 99.9999% of the time the person really, really, really should buy the BL as they have NO interest in an SQ setup they just don't understand what that means.

compared to what, with what amp, how was the box including on what it was compared to... Having an opinion with a sample size of near 1 is not valid. We spoke about this before. The w3's are fine, not the reason for this rant but they aren't what the OP is looking for.

I am super pumped, but with only a few weeks left feel rather unprepared.
  11. He doesn't and there are all sorts of things wrong with what he is proposing to do. I don't like the slopes, the frequencies, the lack of underlap, and they don't fit well with the driver choice. Somewhere along the line he has been misinformed by someone on how this works. Can I assume the passenger side is even easier? Also, if the 4" tweet is 1.5" thick will you still be able to aim it a bit or will you be stuck with a fixed aiming at that point? Sometimes less is more and we could pick a compact tweeter to maximize your aiming in particular since a midrange will be taking care of most of the audible frequency range but I much prefer full size tweets in particular when budget is involved.
  12. I am having a hard time with your descriptions. "Hitting" is not very descriptive. As for hearing you do realize that your ears roll off 'down low' and of course that will make it seem like your driver is. Theoretically speaking 2 drivers with half the power will be the same volume as one driver with twice the power. Of course in practice with power compression and the capabilities to eq you could thicken up your bottom end with another driver. How many different boxes have you tried? Taking it as big as you can without letting the driver get sloppy will help your cause as well. Also, instead of saying low perhaps describing the frequency you'd like it to play low to would help. On the same note, curious as to what music you are gearing this to. The only "cheap" fix is to change the box. Everything else is going to cost you.

Cleaned out the leaves from all the landscaping, power washed the patio side of the house and cleaned the windows. While I was at it I cleaned the garage up although it needs another hour. I like spring.

Why bother? Storage space is relatively cheap... 320k seems to work pretty well for me though. Mobile storage space is not and having it in two formats is a serious pain in the ass.

even with a fancy pants 3 way active SQ set up? "in particular" -> real obvious that the noise floor of your living room is a bit higher than in the car, on top of that obviously it is much easier to make things sound better in home.
  18. All the tools and "needing" something different amuses me. I learned behind a 15' Larson runabout on an original Skurfer using stern connections.

I have actually been contemplating a data reduction for my music collection. It is all FLAC now as I ripped my own CD's but keeping it that way takes too much space. Since I have the originals I may blast it all down to mp3 and call it good, I just haven't decided what rate yet though. The one thing I can for sure say is that it will be higher than 192, but I am not sure by how far.
  21. ///M5 replied to mrray13's topic in Off Topic
Although the analyzer can show some differences, your ear is a whole different animal. Obviously the all digital analyzer has a bit more capability to resolve than we can. In the mp3 realm 192k is audibly different on some tracks, although not all, in particular in your car. Hell I guarantee most people couldn't tell the difference back to back.

The w3, Q, and BL are not similar in anyway shape or form. Perhaps you should re-think your goals a bit.

Almost convinced myself the Neorest was worth it, but $2400 bones without the bidet sort of was impossible to get beyond. If it was the only house project that I had I would have done it. *plus, I am not so sure I want my drunk friends pissing on the bidet spout. It does retract, but still gross. Perhaps when I redo the master bath

I bought the Aquia II from Faucetdirect. It is going to be the toilet guests use most so having easy to clean sides and shape was important too me. I am also a fan of contemporary design as long as it isn't uber contemporary.

Basically bought all my fixtures from there, WAY cheaper than here. IIRC the Brass Rail in Edina sells the Toto's but they are about $100 more
