Not that I doubt the Sundown puts out more power, but I would like to understand how you set the gains in both scenario's.

There is no ideal for every installation, it will GREATLY depend on your car. Expect to spend many, many hours optimizing them. I would expect with your first shot they will sound much worse than the passives, but once you get them dialed in they will be better. I am not sure I understand why you'd buy a component set when you plan to run active. For less money there are definitely better drivers out there.

For a 2 way active setup you can use a headunit with built in crossovers like the Pioneer 880prs or the Alpine 9887. Do a search for active crossovers and come back with questions after the search instead of before

TMax's comment was meant a bit differently for instance, the Mach 5 has 2+2 or DVC 2ohm meaning it requires an amplifier that will play power either at 1ohm or 4ohm's.

It'll be just as bad next summer, or worse. I'm honestly really surprised at what's happened with the price of oil, I didn't think it would have had anywhere near the elasticity that it had. Not surprised. The reason it went up is the boom's in India & China, with their economy failing demand drops in a huge way. I wouldn't expect it to leap back up anytime soon. It will climb, but not like it did before.

If you truly want it to blend with the L6 it will be enough power. And I wouldn't hesitate to get an IXL, I love mine.

Just port lower, your current box is ported RIDICULOUSLY high.
