A well maintained 1/2 ton with the 350 will get around 18mpg on the highway, depending on what it is (4x4, long bed, gearing, etc, etc) you could get 20mpg or so on the highway, but beyond that your pretty well screwed. You've got a 5,000-5,800lb truck that is a flying brick down the highway with a 350ci V8 in it... In your dreams. Everyone I know with a non-LS Chev is lucky to get 15, and that is downhill with backwind.

    Get an F150
  3. Not what I said at all. Everything is subjective and a compromise, you have to pick where you compromise and by how much. There is no "optimum" for everyone's solution and there is a ton of variability in between. We are back to the same problem you were having in PM'ing me. If you describe what you don't like and why and then ask what about what you have is doing that you will get into a much better discussion and leave with a better understanding for yourself on what you need to do. The real deal is you have a ported Icon 15 in a box now. And for the first time after 30 posts and PM's I think you are implying that it isn't loud enough. Of course I could be misreading your post. If you think buying 2 Rli 10's and porting them is going to make it louder, I don't think you will be able to perceive the difference as it will be within a few dB either way and not within the threshold of what you can discern. Now that doesn't mean for your listening preferences that the perceived loudness wouldn't be higher, but you'd have to actually share what you don't like about the response of your 15" Icon and be a lot more specific if you actually want a solution to solve your concerns.
  4. For the same reason square woofers are pieces of sh*t, lots o' cone flex....Cone Flex=Distortion Not true. Either shape can be designed to be just as rigid as a round shape.
  5. They allow you to have your gain knob lower on your amplifier, but of course that is exactly why you have a gain knob on your amplifier. More importantly than voltage is to have a good SNR on whatever signal comes out. My head, even though capable, won't kick out more than 0.2v at my normal listening level.

    *inserts GM joke
  7. High voltage outputs don't really buy you anything, it would be one of the last reasons why I'd choose a headunit.

If you don't endanger anyone I don't care at all what you do.
  9. A term that shouldn't exist as it is a subjective compromise. Understood on this site to mean loud sound quality.
  10. It isn't related to shape, just engineering which the oval shapes seem to not get any of.

    Down with the rice
  12. Since we are clarifying, there is NO single optimum LSQ box either. SPL and SQ boxes are polar opposites.

I have to fly to fucking California tomorrow. Ugh.

There is no really set answer. I have more than 80sqft in my doors, but you can surely get by with less.

I really don't need a beer for breakfast though
  16. The Icon will play the lows better yes, but as I said before the style of music he listens to doesn't have lows.
  17. ///M5 replied to mrray13's topic in Off Topic
no, but I feel like I drank 3 cases of it last night right now

yeah, stock height it has 350 badges on it because guess what, it's an SS350 same with the simulated hood scoops, just stock That doesn't defend how fugly that car is though. I have a Z71 and I don't have the ugly Z71 stickers on my truck.
  19. Exactly, he doesn't want the lows. He wants output. That isn't low.
  20. The Icon will play the lows better, but I really doubt that your friend actually cares about lows.
  21. No one can tell you that as it depends more on your box than the difference between the drivers.

The guy who owns that has a mullet. Nice yellow traction bars and if that is stock height It looks to me like it has a lift kit, probably just really fresh springs but ugh! I think that modern rubber in a high profile tire looks like shit, especially when they are that narrow. Almost look like snow tires. That and the color is god aweful. That spoiler sucks, the hood scoops are lame, and it has 350 badges on it. Huge mullet.
  23. Not 6x5, but 6.5" round components.

that's the problem with low profile tires, you have to slam the bitch to get it to look right when you've got a ton of rubber under there, you can get away with something like this: That looks terrible. Everything bad about the 60's and nothing good.
