Could Y'all look at this and see if I'm breaking any rules?
Beware below the tuning frequency, you can easily harm your sub. If you want 20hz, you better tune even lower. As an fyi, my Rli8 is in a ported box. It is about a half cubic foot net, but the external size of the box is over 3.5cuft. The port gets really long. I'd try and snake it the long way so it has the least amount of turns.

I only use natural lump, as for the brand I am not loyal.

Its got to be small(Madza MX-5) Advice
The footprint on the JBL is huge though. If you are running passive though you don't need six channels. Are you going to add a subwoofer anywhere or just the fronts/

A few things: As a rule of thumb your port doesn't have the right profile. I wouldn't exceed a 7 to 1 ratio. I'd also like to see a little more port area, but you don't have to get ridiculous perhaps step it up to 8.25 x 1.25" For in house 38hz is WAY too high. If you use it at all for movies you need to be below 20hz and if it is just for music I'd still go below 30hz. I'd also flush mount the driver and double baffle it while you are at it.

Break in time?
No need to break it in, on its own the suspension will relax. Wang away.

ported or sealed
Sort of depends on who you ask. IMO rock music requires monster midbasses not a major sub setup, because of that I would say to go sealed. It sounds to me like you like exaggerated bass though so a ported enclosure with a low tuning would be fine as well.

music to my ears! For shits and giggles pop a rack of ribs on there at around 210, they won't take 4 hours. Oh, and if the music was on the $20 here is my "temporary" holder. It has been going on two years and will probably be one more before it is retired and the smoker will be 100% built in to my backyard.

10" soloX problems
Probably some aliasing in your vision, it couldn't play out on one note and play in on another. The mechanical noise is more what bothers me, can you describe it better?

It would look way better without the polish on the wheels.

I think mine cost me $20 to make. One warning, you will find the BGE is faster than a standard smoker so it won't take as long as you think.

Interesting, I guess we know why the LS makes power as GM obviously had to copy Ford. *you knew that was coming I'd like to see it run though.

I nubed it up and when I checked out I forgot to get the place setter with it so I can smoke. I just forgot to add it to the ticket when actualy paying. i got large. I told the W I wanted to get the 1700 dollar one, but would settle for the XL. Then I got the large, and told her she can spend the change on her house make over budget. Yup, I'm gonna get some. I grilled brats and dogs tonight. I need to build a stand for that unit though. I built the stand for mine as well. The little rolling stand for the Viking is $700, ouch!

that is an amazingly simple crossover, I say do it! then do one of the dayton rs speakers from htguide with the overly complex crossovers and compare! I think I am going to build the Natalie P for in walls in my bedroom. My only difficulty with the Zaph design is to alter it to work with my shielded Scan, but the crossover is simple enough I think I can figure it out and I am sure if I give it a shot he will pipe in and correct any poor assumptions that I make.- Welcome to the IHoP

I may have a use for my Rev's finally. http://zaphaudio.com/ZRT.html Hmm, not sure I like the idea of a $200 tweet, but you only live once and the crossover is way cheap compared to many designs which compensates some.- Welcome to the IHoP
