  1. No pressure taken. I personally haven't had good experiences with the Infinity subs otherwise I would have bought one of yours and never made the thread. I am going to try and get a little more money out of her for some more power and buy MK's Kicker 400.1, as doing power at 2ohms instead of 4 makes things a bit easier.
  2. I'd personally take a step back and save some dough on the amps and put it into the installation. Way more bang for the buck there.

    Nasty.
  4. I'm almost positive that I could take almost any sub and get it to play sub 30 hz frequencies. Indeed, exactly my point. Operator error if you can't. After hearing what a pair of cheap Pioneers can do in decent box, I'm going to say manufacturer (talking about mainstream companies) recomandations are crap I never argued differently there, of course this is very dependent on the manufacturer. sqguyib you have to separate the components from the installation. It is absurd to not. Installation is 90% of the game, if they won't play low it is the fault of the installer and no one else. IMO you can't even blame the manufacturer as they are marketing the same way their competition is, if the person installing is too much of an idiot to think for themselves and go about doing things the right way it is their fault and their fault alone. Your comment that "most people" don't have the capability of playing sub-30hz is also ridiculous because of the equipment is ludicrous. The major reason that most people do not have anything that plays the lows is that they run ported boxes and tune high. Why?? Because they want exaggerated bass and the peakiest response possible. For the rest of the world that runs sealed this isn't the case at all.
  5. I wouldn't buy the Hifonics stuff if it were 15% of the price that it actually is. I still don't understand what you are actually asking either.

  7. If a sub can't play below 30hz it IS operator error. Sure there is some serious junk out there and you have proven you like to buy it, but nonetheless your comment is absurd. I LP mine at 40hz for god sakes.

    The IXL's rock, and so does the amp John has for sale.
  14. Umm, you are screwed they will be drowned out. The most important part of your system are the front speakers and IMO the budget should always be higher for the fronts than the sub. No matter what you do, nothing will "keep up" unless you really rethink what you want. If it is "just to hear words" then don't worry about it.
  15. Kent you could put a 100 more links in here and it would be okay with me. I will also be the first to agree that you don't have to give a sub anywhere near its rated power; however, this isn't for me and considering the lack of available battery/alternator and that it will be used mostly while floating I am trying to get the most bang for the buck out of the power that is there. If not, I would have already bought that Mag for sure. I ruled out Kharps & John's for sales just based on coils and running more than one driver before making this thread, obviously I'd prefer to buy here though. I also know my sister and whatever I choose will stay in her boat until it dies or they sell it so I want to pick well. :{
  16. I am going to have to re-measure to see if I can fit the Mag although is 350w enough for it?
  17. I like the 12" Rli idea, of course it requires one being for sale. Even though I know better I don't think she will be keen on dual 8's. More likely a 15, but I am not sure I want to try and stuff one down in her hatch

    I'd snoop around HTGuide & Zaph and see if there are any that excite you.
  19. Isn't she a bit short on power for a max?

    Ever built passives before or will you be building someone elses?
  21. Not my thing, but my sister wants some output. Looking for a sub for her boat. Nothing magical to blend with, just a set of tbd comps and an amplifier. Have 350w @ 4ohms (or 175x2 @ 2ohms) on tap and up to a few cuft to put it in. Would prefer loud for playing hip-hop, but at least mildly musical as I won't build a box for a fart cannon as it would piss me off too much. This one will be ported. Budget, less is more but $200 tops. New, used, a pair, or unusual is all fine with me I'd love a Maw, but the coils don't work for the power we have Same problem with the SD's. At the moment, I am leaning towards a 12" JBL GTO for $50 but would love to kick it up a notch from there. Any recommendations?
  22. There must be something in the water in Florida.... What you need to do is define your goals and what you want to accomplish, the gear you already have, and then we can help. Arbitrary decisions on drivers and mountings isn't going to get you anywhere good.

    If it is tough to IB, definitely do the big ported although it might have to be laying down. How close are you actually going to be sitting to these?
  24. Everything about your install so far makes me sick to my stomach. Not sure what you are trying to accomplish or why, but it isn't making any sense so far. Putting Kicker 6.5's, Powerbass midbasses, Audax 8" subs crossed as midbasses, with more midranges is not going to sound good and create all sorts of problems. Not to mention hanging things from the ceiling isn't something I'd recommend either. You also are asking for midrange help without defining a purpose, an aiming, an enclosure size, what amp you are using, what processing you have and so on. IMO you should stick with off the shelf components as it sure sounds like you are in way over your head.
  25. You need to start completely over what you are defining isn't going to work.
