wsup with the BL
so what you're saying is the Q can do it barely but to be on the safe side go with the BL Not sure why you wanted the Q in the first place, they aren't at all designed for your application. Perhaps you are reading into things from other peoples desires that aren't yours. Now is the time to be honest, if you mislead us asking for information on what to get you will end up with the wrong sub; however, it is REALLY obvious from your posts in this thread that you should buy the BL and not the Q. I am really, really curious as to why you though the Q was your solution.

Damping Factor/Slew Rate/Muddy Sound Question
You need to know what space you have before you can choose anything.

Damping Factor/Slew Rate/Muddy Sound Question
Definitely don't knock the Crown/JBL amps they are real nice, albeit rather large. Midbass recommendations will depend on the processing you have, the mounting location, what drivers you will use with them, and of course your budget.

Damping Factor/Slew Rate/Muddy Sound Question
x1000000000 Subs playing above 50hz are suspect in the first place.

Damping Factor/Slew Rate/Muddy Sound Question
Pick your subs before your amp...always. 8's won't be any faster than larger drivers, if that is your reasoning it is flawed.

I haven't been in the doors in an explorer, what sort of space do you have?

$1k in processing if you keep your head, plus amps for every driver, and new drivers. You still interested?

Anyone have knowledge about ED SPv.2's?
Sell it on ICIX and buy a sub from a reputable manufacturer.

surface area
Try 4 pi r Outside that I have no idea uhh... the equation for area of a circle is pi * r^2 Indeed, don't forget to only measure the cone itself and not the whole driver.

Damping Factor/Slew Rate/Muddy Sound Question
Neither idea is right. 8's won't be any quicker or faster or whatever you want to call it than 12's or even 18's for that matter. However, his slew rate comment isn't what is happening either. You have a few issues. 1- your amp is junk, you are probably driving it into clipping which surely doesn't help 2 - your box, your box, your box ---99% of all issues are install related and I am sure yours is 3 - your expectations of the CW might be a bit high although that is surely not your fundamental problem

An Alpine C701/H701 combo would be fine, but you might as well scrap the h/u and go with something that can control the H701 if you go that route. You could find a use PPI DCX 730, or depending on locations use a 360.2, or of course use Digital Zapco amplifiers and get a controller but for the first shot it is by far the easiest to have h/u control.

midbass in rear doors?
I thought I'd read/heard a number of times that bass is omnidirectional until you get up into the midbass stuff, or a couple hundred hz. I don't really know where i'd put them up front. I like the stock door look of things and my big feet would get in the way of kick panels. cripes. Only if you are listening challenged. I can easily locate 50hz which is why my subs only play to 40hz

Either you will have a tuning nightmare or need a different headunit with my solution. You will need more tuning than the 9800 can offer.

Oh, the tackle difference is nuts too. You fish for reds with medium bass tackle, Muskie with fairly heavy salt water stuff.
