He used to do some kind of audio engineering with large sound systems. And commercial design. Not sure exactly actually. I have yet to have a question he isn't able to answer Work for EV in Burnsville?

Now if I could have classes where we actually discussed real world applications and studied them as would be used in practice as an engineer, I think I would enjoy that quite a bit more, but not so much. It wasn't that it was based on real world applications but when you have profs who understand that you need to learn by applying something it makes it easier for them to cater to you. Having more personal time with the professors was the real key probably. You mean everyone doesn't learn by assigning problem after problem from a text book and doing it over and over? Definitely part of my problem, I hate assignments and would plagiarize therefore to learn I needed to cram which meant some hands on time.

Very true, but I think all the more basic shit like circuit theory one could all be taught as a 2 semester hands on lab and lecture rolled into one. Then again a lot of EE students I know don't give a shit about hands on, hell a lot of them couldn't wire a f'ing light switch if you told them to. So many people in my circuits lab last semester couldn't figure out how to wire up a circuit of 5-6 components with the diagram right in front of them. 'Twas ridiculous. I'd like to see them solder

Reallly loud people in the hotel room next to me. All 10 of them...I am not normally the guy who complains, but when I try to sleep they better shut the eff up.

And the difference in real life? I get to train some people on some things I don't understand tomorrow. Ought to be fun since I don't feel like studying tonight either. Eff it. I enjoy it a hell of a lot more if I can see it in the first place and put my hands on it. And for being a EE I don't know shit about circuits and can't say its the most enjoyable thing ever. I really don't want to change majors 3yrs into engineering again either. I'm planning on finishing the EE degree with power systems (easiest and sounds most enjoyable) and work in the shop for 5-10yrs and get my own custom business up off the ground. I learn with my hands as well, practical knowledge >> theory. unfortunately, engineering is almost entirely theory You should have gone to a smaller school then. Small classes = hands on discussion, instead of lecture. By default it makes it a lot more hands on (not in the literal sense). Hell Physics is rather theoretical, but I made it through by discussing practical applications to understand really how it worked. Thank god for the profs I had access to though otherwise it would have been tough. Of course you get rather personal instruction when your senior year major classes averaged 4 people and they were taught by a prof as there is no grad school associated.

The real question is why isn't it as loud. I suspect filters on the amp as stated above.

The whine isn't related to the power, just the ground or wiring.
  18. I can't even begin to list the number of posts where I've seen the "turn it up to drown out the guy next to you at the stoplight" attitude, even from people who should be old enough to know better. With that kind of behavior, it's no surprise that the public at large has such a negative impression of the entire hobby. I understand your point ..but..everyone in this hobby is a kid to some degree...........other wise you wouldnt spend 10 grand on an spl, street beater or sq set up.................and mybe if we would try to teach some of the public at large..(including some in the hobby)..that there is a positve side to car audio and not just that 10% that act like little kids at the stop light......because if we dont...................today its to loud and tomorrow they dont like the music you play(young jeeze, ect. ect.) when will it stop................................stereotyping is done by stupid ignorent people..............thats why they need to fight that law its pure stereotyping..........Im sure you could show a few post that say that but those post are but to few and far between Umm, not a kid at all. Some of us just like music. Not sure where the hell that came from. Also, stop typing in huge ellipses it is really annoying.

Curious as to where your filters are now (SS & Xover) as well as how you set the gains on both amps.

You are sort of making the point of saying something wasn't foul to a referee in a game. Hard to judge, but believe me if you do send out a note all of the mods will see it and remember & take note. If the behavior is bothersome to the mod/admin team it will be dealt with. In other words, click the little report button and say what you will say. It does get copied to the whole mod staff so there is no mod can take it back or hide it. By default there is accountability that is dealt with in exactly the same way that it is dealt with if it is a non-mod member since all of the team will see it.

Zedman there is one other thing that you aren't taking into consideration. Part of the reason this is a mostly drama-less site is because as a mod staff we don't allow mis-information to spread. Of course it is always limited to the best of our ability, but nonetheless when people say things that aren't true they get called on it. Other sites let stuff like that fly which really takes away from the context and reliability of the information on the site and makes it a joke. Of course feathers get ruffled when this involves directly disagreeing with someone, but the antagonism is 99.9% then pushed by the person who was misinformed. In reality the mod staff here is really, really transparent in particular for a car audio webforum which are typically dominated by people with no experience but big typing fingers. The not so amusing part to me here is that you are bringing this up from a very small sampling of what happens here, and if you really sat back and looked at all of the developments historically you would be seeing them from a different side.
  25. I'd say you could hear a bad system from that distance not a good one. Unlike the Ice Cream man, most of us don't mount speakers on the outside of the car.
