That's far more fun And far more money. The first part isn't quite so exciting as whole house audio comes before the fun audio. Mostly since I have to do the wiring for other things, but I figure I might as well integrate a "system" while I am at it. Then I can start scheming on what to build for mains for three different rooms. Welcome to 2008. I will have stereo in more than 10 rooms and not a single one of them will have that trendy but useless surround sound crap. If it were me, I'd probably run 10 different things I guess the multiroom things are cool, but I'd rather have the variety All non-critical rooms get built in's, the 3 critical (not counting the home theater room) will get mains. The amps will all be in the basement with the speakers local in each room. Every room will have a "local" input if you want variety but also able to play whatever else is oging on throughout the house. Doing a stack of the new QSC Powerlight 4.0's in the basement??? The built-in's will just get some sort of cheap power as for the other channels I currently have enough Adcom amps laying around to take care of them. When I need more power things will change
  5. Then you should sell it and buy a different one. An off the shelf x-over is not a good solution for the drivers you have selected.

The only subs I have ever seen rated anywhere near 99dB that work in a car really, really, really lied about their efficiency.
  7. Suck down some shine for me brotha. Happy b-day!!

  9. You could save some budget on the 720 set and upgrade to the 800prs h/u and then run the drivers active.

I wish I didn't have so many windows, $1k for a 50 and I'd have one today. Friggin' LCD's with 120hz are more than $2500
  11. Get a headunit with built in crossovers...those off board analog devices are not flexible enough quickly enough for the difficult driver you are trying to use. If you want to use something like that sell the Excels and get the CA18rnx's instead as they are much more filter friendly.
  12. Personally I am not interested in home theater. Playing movies and tv through 2 really good channels is better than 5 bought for the same money.
  13. The Aura 12" actually has a pretty decent response up to 1200hz or so, I'd never use it that high but they are capable. As for your pro audio question, I'd look for people who have tried different ones as buying on specs doesnt' usually yield what you expect. Generically speaking I'd start looking at B&C stuff.
  14. Knu stuff is just fine. eD sucks. The Kicker is just fine as well. Between Knu & Kicker, buy on price.

A few things: 1) You have NEVER heard a system without any distortion or music ever without "distortions" 2) Staging is part of the response of a system and you can't isolate it as it is intrinsic to its response 3) Stop posting in colors people can't read 4) Your attempt at being cute with analogies just makes you sound even more idiotic
  18. SQ

///M5 replied to cLutcH's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
Really simple actually. First start with sine waves. 1) Take the output of your cd player into an analyzer and look at the response. 2) Now take a microphone and measure the acoustic response of your system 3) Overlay 1 & 2 and make them identical Once you balance your system to play back sine waves identically as they are recorded, it will now play music back as recorded. You also must realize though that popular music in general is recorded in such a way to compensate for stereo systems so you will have to adjust afterwards, of course if you listen to real musicians this is much less the case.
  19. Bummer since the paint looks nice too. Perhaps it will mellow out after a while, perhaps heat it up a bit with something else to evaporate the volatiles.
  20. ///M5 replied to mrray13's topic in Off Topic
I need to do the same although this time it is the stereo for the house
  21. These will easily play to 300hz. http://madisound.secureserverdot.com/catal...;products_id=79 If you need more output though pro audio is your other choice.
  22. Personally I'd never mix crossovers. If you could guarantee an exact crossover point (which neither can nor will) then it would be possible to use them to add slopes. In reality it never really happens that way.
  23. SQ

///M5 replied to cLutcH's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
Not really, your point of view just wavers around wherever you feel you "want" to be. One minute it is an SPL car the next you claim otherwise. First, that isn't even a sentence. Detention is keeping you after school, waves dont "break into", but most importantly I don't care at all about the technical aspect of the system just that it reproduces things like the recording whether it be studio, live, or even something recorded in the basement. Your live performance comments crack me up, in particular since I would guess near 80% of my music are albums that were recorded live. Then you should build an SQ system and not an SPL system as Slayer doesn't have all sorts of big fart cannon bass cabinets when they play. Not even close. Your system doesn't resemble what they do at all. :(

They'll drop it rather easily I am sure. Just be super civil, but you will also have no case on them.
