My 15" Q blew up...
The correct answer would be in voltage...either way you over powered the driver, so possible your amp took a crap or your settings weren't as you thought they were.

Why would I bother? Here is something for you to think about, how does your calculation work if all of sudden TL is placed in the rear of your SUV.

Welcome to the IHoP
I am selling mine. A really good friend of my Uncle was down in Florida a couple weeks ago with his wife riding her bike behind him when all of a sudden her bike past him laying down without her on it. Some dumb ass rearended her so hard their airbags went off. When he got up to her she was in a huge pile of blood and was sure she was dead. The helmet did its job though, she is having major reconstructive surgery on her face as her jaw is all screwed up but she lived. I can't imagine the horror of watching your wives bike pass you without her on the highway. Sort of the last straw for me, I am not ready to be handicapped yet.

ssa icon 12 vs kicker L7 12
Well considering the L7 likes to be in a big ported box around 3.25cuft and the Icon 15" fits in about the same box I'd compare the two of those. Then I think the Icon will win in ALL categories.

You ask to explain why you can't do that, but for the life of me I can't understand why you think you could do that. If you can let me know that portion I will be glad to explain why not. Perhaps a quick wiki of the term natural frequency will help you. Post away though, we will explain.

Yep, pretty much Scott nailed it. Your "measurement" method tells you absolutely nothing, if you actually measured though it would...and I mean dB not distance.

Please help with Home Audio setup in my den
Conveniently unlike car audio, order doesn't matter that much in home audio as things are interchangeable. Personally I'd try to spend the least possible on the sound card, but get a good set of DAC's. I assume you have had no luck finding the Chaintech AV710 as it is out of "print". Once there I'd look for a used amp/pre-amp combo and sort of decide how big the enclosures for your speakers can be. Then we can further help narrow things down. The 166's do seem to have quite the following for the single driver setup and the speaks I heard at Madisound with them were impressive. The nice part of a full range is that you don't have to blow a lot of dough in your crossovers (usually equal to your drivers in price although there can be more cost effective solutions).
