The stuff on Ebay looks like real junk. 10 pair for $200 stuff, at least the crossovers on the HTD look like they have spent at least $5 on them unlike $5 on the whole dang thing.

So how is this for logic in picking out some low cost ambient drivers: 1) I want some low freq output 2) I prefer soft domes 3) My guess in the cheap domain that the simpler the response the better No: Kevlar cone on an 8" in a 2 way doesn't seem logical, plus its spendy http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=300-472 No: Aluminum tweet and cone 8" 2way scares me. http://www.htd.com/in-wall-ceiling-speaker...finition/HD-R80 Maybe: Lack of details scare me http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=300-366 Yes: Poly cone and silk tweet, reasonable looking crossover for a cheap pair http://www.htd.com/in-wall-ceiling-speaker...ose/MP-R80#more Obviously either of the last two options are available in 6.5's, which a big part of me thinks would be better. Even in a 6.5 I am not interested in the hard coned drivers, gotta stay with KISS...which of course is probably the 6.5 version of either of the last two. Someone talk me into something. I should order tomorrow. ***obviously just for rooms that aren't friendly for putting speakers in: kitchen, dining room, master bathroom, master bedroom, workout room:: all real rooms will get something much nicer

<-- still waiting for the whole Sirius/XM merger bullchit to get through before even considering satellite radio Ah, CD >> broadcast junk
  4. Those headunits all have the crossovers in them which IMO is far superior to using an amplifier to adjust them as it is upfront with you.

The aluminum backing really helps with the heat <--didn't realize there was still FM radio
  6. New, you can choose the Eclipse 7100, Alpine 9887 or Pio 800prs (880 if you can still find it)....but there goes your budget. You need an amplifier channel for every driver. 4 channels + a sub channel if you choose to run a sub.

Don't buy that stuff in sheets, get some Raamat or Secondskin.

Went shopping all day hungover and didn't really buy anything.

Application and desires would help as well.
  10. Regularly it can be a step up.
  11. Your issue with not spending a lot is your need for processing. I agree with doing it in headunit, but if the money is scarce a used h/u might be the way to go.
  12. Sweet. This guy? http://www.reckhorn.com/index.php?ln=en&prod=b1 Curious as to the "street" price of that unit.
  13. ///M5 replied to JoshHd6's topic in General Fi
If that includes electrical you are going to need more money.

Some options: http://www.htd.com/in-wall-ceiling-speaker...finition/HD-R65 http://www.htd.com/in-wall-ceiling-speaker...-purpose/MP-R65 http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=300-402 http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=302-474 http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=310-232 http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=310-222 I would prefer something budget oriented ~$100 or less, but could be swayed if I really need to be

New one for you guys. I need some ceiling speakers. *ugh, I know But they are for the kitchen, dining room, and bathroom so not critical listening spots. At the moment I am too lazy and cheap to diy anything real so I want to buy something, not ridiculously expensive either as there will be plenty of channels of real drivers throughout the house. I feel sort of dumb I didn't ask before, I need them here before next weekend so I can cut some holes in the ceiling and pull the wires.
  20. You sir are the epitome of a friend.
  21. The acoustic pressure rolls off as a squared power of the distance you go away so just move the mic further away. If you want a mic in car, it will cost you a lot of dough. Not sure why you care, not like subs vids are exciting. Imagine that it moves back and forth.
  22. There are microphones that can measure 180db, but expect to pay well over a grand for them.
