  1. Still torn on NFT vs Ebb/flow. I think I want to do round tubes as it is easy to add removable ends to clean if I ever want to. Perhaps again Sean overkill though. Damnit I just want some food!!
  2. OMG awesome!!
  3. RO is in the basement piped to multiple locations. Will also power my ice maker and seltzer water dispenser. I have an air pump, didn't know about the bacteria. My lights are ridiculously loud so I might change everything up at some point.
  4. That sucks. And my dumb ass recommended you fix it vs replace. Aargh
  5. Outside of pizza dough I didn't used to bake. Now sadly I have no desire to go to a bakery again. They need to up their game
  6. And I am not hoarding...lol. 00 Flour in town is $14 for 2lbs. This beast was $30. I've used 25lbs of flour this month so the pics above showing 150lbs of flour or so is indeed months worth....but only because I can't buy reasonable sizes anymore. Said fuck it and got big containers to hold it all.
  7. Just pulled this out of my oven...5 min ago. And I know nothing of this high gluten flour you speak of. Lol. Just flour, sugar, dried legumes, dried peppers, asian noodles and rice. Have some smaller containers of stuff that fit in those categories, but am in the middle of re-organizing my pantry and everything.
  8. I am old enough or young enough for taht one
  9. Holland top
  10. Ain't much if you ain't Dutch.
  11. I measured. My fish tank is 50 gallons. That ought to be ok. My supercharging of my RO helped tremendously as well. Next step is a bigger reservoir. The jars are the ones that had the roots drop already. Think I am going to build a little tray and cover to hold rockwool in netty pots already so no transplanting necessary. Just pull the netty and go. Density is what I am contemplating now.
  12. Contemplating NFT atm. Why? Easy. Can include a couple dutch buckets at the end for larger plants and actually have some full size tomatoes as well..
  13. Pics will come. Drain was completely quiet on the cut pvc. ie, I turned it into a slide, not a tube. That way the depth of the water would pressurize the line and change the flow rate and therefore level on the containers. Requires no fall. Whatever final design I use I will do that for sure.
  14. You haven't been there long enough to do that. Be careful
  15. During testing if the PVC went all the way into the tank the tank level changed the flow height. I cut the PVC in half so that it would be in the water to quiet it, but not have any back pressure
  16. I need a turd to grow on me
  17. I started the seeds in rockwool, but my seeds were a year old and they didn't all start. 2nd round I started in a plastic bag with a wet paper towel. Those I just transplanted 2 days ago. The basil is in dirt as it was a store bought plant (day before Covid shut down), but I have 8 more basil plants seeding. No idea on the right size netty pot. The ones I am using PERFECTLY fit in mason jars and considering we can and have a shit load of them that is convenient. Again my original goal was herbs so I hadn't planned on big tomato plants and the like, but have 8 cherry tomato plants seeded now. We shall see how it all goes.
  18. The top cover was meant to keep all light away from the tank. Some modification of my overall design is obviously needed. I'd prefer to use much of the structure, but it is easy enough to change.
  19. Here is what I built initially...before realizing my error. And used to teach a 9yr old how to bond pvc It is probably fine actually for herbs / lettuce which was my pre-covid need. Things I realized now: -I severely underestimated my plant density. ie, one basil plant isn't enough. -Root structure will make a problem for anything larger -Pink lights are brutal on the eyes and my neighbors all think, hmmm.
  20. Ha. If I use the 4" pvc the roots will fill it up pretty well. If that flow restriction occurs it is possible that the water will just come out of the net cup holes. When that happens it will flood the floor as my tank is covered so overflow would hit the floor and not the tank. My contemplation to resolve this was a moisture sensor connected to my home security system that would then have my automation software shut off the power to the pump. I didn't explain that very clearly, but it sort of shows the ridiculous overboard nature I cannot escape from myself.
  21. Change is hard for people who have been doing anything for a long time
  22. Shut it off if it spills.
  23. I do, but didn't want one then so I didn't remember it being as bad ass.
  24. Ok, holy shit. My BIL feeds his everyday. I assumed that was necessary, lol. Of course he has 60 or something like that.
  25. I also think if I were to do this over I would do some modfied aeroponic version of this. Just linking in case anyone wants a cheap way for home: Mine is in a living space so the tote is a no go.
