I think you should sell your 8445 and get an active controllable h/u and do a 2 way first. You are really biting off a lot for a first time and most likely without practice you will have better results with just a 2 way. In a 3 way I wouldn't use a 5.25" mid either, sort of defeats the purpose IMO.

In terms of sounding "right", I'd say midrange... In particular if your midrange is nearly a full range

Another thing, if you have a flat input the output power of your amplifiers should be the same at all frequencies unless you have some serious issues with your amplifier. Of course once you put a load on them this will all change, but it is determined by the load impedance and not the output power of the amplifier.

2.8 v6?? We paid <$16K for the w's 02 A6 with < 30k miles just a bit ago. The 2.8 was discontinued, in Steve's price range it is 3.0, 2.7 (NO), or 4.2. I too vote 3.0

:( 5.25's have no place in a 3 way. Perhaps we should start from scratch and ask what you are trying to do.
