  1. Depends on the reason that you want to listen to LP's. If it is to truly experience an analog recording the right way, then sell the Adcom buy one of these http://www.promitheusaudio.com/TVC-StainlessSteel.HTM and a good pre-amp that Jim can recommend. If it is just to play some records then sell your Adcom and get a different one with a phono input. Keep the Adcom amplifier for sure though.

I really wish I would have bought the SS pickup instead of mine, I may have kept it then. A new cam, new heads, and a tune for less than $2k is sort of appealing.

Something about a lopey barely idling v8 that puts a hell of a smile in my soul.

They don't, IMO... Of course to the ones with the ported boxes they do; however, I would agree with Jim in that their tastes are biased to output and therefore of course they probably think they sound better. Considering better is NOT equal to louder (in particular when louder is defined by a single tone instead of a curve like it should be) this is a farce. If you truly like what you stated, a pair of 12's sealed will be better for you. Perhaps not louder, perhaps louder, but if you truly prefer a "nice" response the sealed pair should be what you run.

  13. I should have asked for more enclosure specifics like how much space you were willing to part with. If you don't have much floor space, perhaps a sonotube?
  14. This isn't very nice of me, but I personally would take your $600 budget and find another $200. If so you can really, really make a monster setup with: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=300-808 and this: http://www.soundsplinter.com/rlp18_subwoof...nformation.html It would pretty much destroy any $600 setup, however, if you need to stay closer to budget you could surely get the same amp and a used Rlp12" for pretty darn near your budget or save a little and get the 500w version for $100 less. *warning, the 18 will take a pretty large box.
  15. And the budget for the amp? Are you building your own enclosure? Really liking the lows and a low budget are counter productive, but let us know the whole deal and we will work with you on getting the best solution possible.

Got the day off, so I am going to go and try and spend some money. Stopping to see: 1) A snowmobile 2) A car 3) A tv Could be a really expensive day, but knowing myself I will probably come home with a 6 pack and some dinner.

better and louder aren't related...no one understands what you are asking. If you are trying to ask whether a pair of 12's sealed or a pair of 10's ported will be louder everyone will respond it will depend on your skills in planning and making the box. Of course the one given which is why your "better" question doesn't work si that the pair of 12's sealed will have a flatter frequency response (which to me is WAY better).

I dont need a lot of power, my car isnt riced out either, just tint and rims. only performance upgrade I have done is the alty, and thats just an electrical upgrade. I am a happy camper at 27mpg. Im not fond of trucks, to bouncy of a ride for me Cost as much as a Bm'er to fix, is from a country that doesn't trade fair with us, and obviously by nature Japanese cars are the quintessential definition of boring.
