Select is pretty much the same as n/a, sort of the anti-beer. Amusingly I would agree that it is Buds best tasting brew, but it is hardly beer. I know the feeling, exact same for me in one of my leagues. 2nd most points (30 from first) and I have only won 4 games. WTF?? To make it even stranger I don't even have that many points scored against me, a couple big weeks when my opponent scored jack and then on average I am losing by less than 5 points. Frustrating. Luckily I have the right matchups so I can still get into the playoffs if I at least win.

Fresh ground aka not the normal one for the deck. It is ALWAYS a good idea to use your own ground the one inside pretty much nearly ever non-BMW I have ever worked on has been noisy. Do beware that you should de-power that deck before doing any switching around otherwise you could blow the microfuse on the inside of it and then it will need service. Shut everything off and pull a fresh ground for the headunit (if the above troubleshooting leads you to believe it is the h/u) and see if it goes away.

headunit amplifier is an oxymoron to begin with. If you need more power add an amplifier.

You can use the crossover on the amp, but without t/a, eq, and independent gain that you would get with a true crossover I wouldn't really say that you would have the benefit of being active.

I would say yes, but only if you are really trying to and not wearing blinders. People are actually pretty easy to figure out, but most of the time most people actually don't want to know so they only see what they think they should or want to see. Taking a step back and really objectively looking at a scenario will allow you to know someone. I would also say that before really choosing to "settle down" you better be able to do the above and actually know the girl. Until then, no matter what you say you are doing you are only playing her and yourself.

Ah, that is one valid use. Active can be better than passive but not overnight and not the first time you plug things in. Expect it to be worse at first but the more you nail your tuning skills down the better it will be. Considering it is your first crack at it I would highly, highly encourage you to stick with a 2 way. I know you said you won't want to do something and then change it later, but the beauty of active is it is super easy to swap out drivers and I pretty much guarantee if you go that route you will change things up. In fact, I'd encourage you to buy used drivers first and plan on changing them once you figure it all out.

*just remembered you are using a LOC. unplug the rca's from the loc and see if the noise goes away. If it does it is LOC or upstream. I would reground the LOC as well and see if that helps, a temporary ground straight to the battery would tell you. If it is neither of those, unplug the speaker leads from the LOC and see if it is generating the noise on its own.

It is either your headunit or rca's. Most likely the headunit and most likely it has a shit ground.

No worries on the questions. Not quite sure I understand why you are comparing 3 way active to 2 way passive though. If you haven't ever done an active setup you really, really should start with a 2 way first. I am still curious as to what use the 3.1 even has, to me it does nothing positive but obviously you got it from someone who thought it did. What did they use it for?

Ya, not planning on adding an stereo in this one. The JBL system sounds incredible for a factory set-up. I'm still blown away by it. And I did notice that "IPOD" jack, lol rofl
