I wouldn't do downfiring exclusively because your location isn't permanent. You might find side, back, or front to be best and of course all of them can really be the same enclosure. Go big and go sealed!

  5. I don't think you will be disappointed, it is a great tweeter. It will mate nicely with the CA as it can play down to 1.5khz or so which will leave you lots of room to experiment with different crossover points. One warning I wouldn't completely copy Jmelan's kickpanels. His are made for the midrange and tweet and not for the midbass. If you put the CA into that teeny little enclosure it will be extremely cramped. Instead I would vent the pod into the fender and potentially even vent the fender to outside to make more of an IB mounting. It will allow the driver to dig a lot deeper than if you cramp it in a teeny pod. The trick will then be to seal off the front wave from the back wave, but a copious amount of modelling clay to seal the surface of the kick panel to the fender will be your friend. Some acoustic stuffing may help in the fender as well. Let us know how it goes!

I had to look up parkade. Let me guess, woman driving a sport ute with probably either a babyseat, coloring book, or most likely a soccer ball in the back seat.

To continue the previous conversation: 9 sub manufacturers and 2 of them make mids. No tweeters. Something is missing on SSA.

Hell the Rli8 in my car has too much output for my front stage at the moment to keep up. Of course my gains are at minimum and I only have a whopping 27w running to the mids, but either way the sub is set at -10dB and it keeps up fine and still actually is too peaky for my tastes.

It is funny, I do worry about all of the drivers in my cars but the reality of it is that almost any sub will do what is necessary. My next project car, I pretty much have the front stage picked out but also haven't thought nor do I care about the subs. They will be IB though as in either a fastback or coupe I think it is most definitely the right decision.
  14. What is the rest of your front stage going to consist of? The reason I ask is that I wouldn't really consider the W18E series woofers, but midranges. If you are only going to play them 300hz and below I would save some money and get something else as that isn't their particular strength. The other warning I will give you is that if you plan to listen to compressed music of any sort the Excels will drive you nuts as they will reproduce everything on that disc to a T and you will be very disappointed in your recordings. They are the least recording friendly driver I have ever heard, but of course on the flip side they are brutally accurate when you have a nice recording. Don't get me wrong I love mine. Also don't take my midrange comment as that they have no midbass they are very effective for a 2 way setup midbass wise but there are other drivers that can do better on the low end. To get back on to helping you out. Are you limited to only a 7? What does it need to blend with? How much power do you have? What are you using for processing? What is the mounting location and type of car?

eff the bass, sometimes I want to pull my sub out so I can say I don't have any just for that reason If I wouldn't use the Maggies for movies, I wouldn't have a sub setup with them. But since I am using them for movies in addition to music... Just to contradict my previous statement I will say that I personally think that the Maggies need a subwoofer. You can cross it pretty low, but a stereo sub setup works out well with them.
  16. I will say that I personally haven't sat and listened to each of these in an off-axis world to compare, but have heard all of them and feel they would all be very good off axis. All of the pairs that I am going to recommend will fit in your budget with shipping included. If you like your tweeters bright and are running them off axis you may like the extra brightness of a metal tweet. Although neither of these two really sound as metallic as you would expect they will both add a bit of brightness that metal can bring. Also of course, if you prefer metal tweeters you would probably like these as well. Dayton RS28A Seas H1212 Now if you prefer the textile sound or are looking for what I feel is a more transparent sound, I'd look at these. If it were my rig, I'd probably go with the HDS's in your price range as I think they are an outstanding buy for the dollar and a great sounding tweet. The Seas and Usher are nice as well. Sounds to me like you are being sexually harassed. The manager should have known better than to expose the company ink, seems to me in this case she should be kissing your ass not the other way around. Scary thing is its probably her career and a job for you in college. Laugh it off.
