Not someplace I have been in a while either and with the way I travel that is saying something.
  2. When will these be tested for effectiveness? Probably never. Standard tests are about $600 per sample and I can not figure out a way to even prepare specimens in a way that would be fair. How do you compare the effectiveness of a thicker mat to that of a thinner mat? Use the same area? Same mass? Who knows. It seems to me that the best we can do is extrapolate effectiveness from material properties. To a large extent, mass is a determining factor - if it doesn't melt or fall off, it will do some good. Beyond that, we know that butyl is viscoelastic. That adds effectiveness. We know that the thicker and stronger the foil, the more the product will stiffen the panel and the greater the viscoelastic effect will be. There really doesn't seem to be a generalized "all things being equal" testing structure that will let us compare to a standard ideal. It is pretty easy to measure damping, frequency shift and of course the modal response of a structure, but since you can't mass load it further you will have to use a laser vibrometer instead of an accelerometer. You could also do acoustic transmission loss tests on it as well.

It feels a lot more high tech than Magenapan in their plant. Maybe one of these days I'll be lucky enough to tour both of them and see for myself. Hell, I wonder if they do internships! I am pretty sure if you didn't care about getting paid they could have you do something.

I'll probably end up with clipless sooner or later. The main reason I don't have them now is the reason you mentioned. The learning curve although fast is also "fun"
  11. ///M5 replied to mrray13's topic in Off Topic
Boo, going clipless is necessary in my book. Way safer, way more control, and a significantly higher avg speed. Only downfall is the price of the shoes. *posts from plane, going home. Bye, bye laguna bs.
  12. They are all just fine. I would definitely worry about the front stage 1st.

  17. The XT19's are better than the Pio tweeters and the Seas has a lot of advantages over the mid, so I don't think that fits here although it would be a great set if you needed a passive in that budget.

If you run to the gym, do you still really need to workout? I thought the same thing this morning. Good stuff all around. edit: From looking at the trends of other car audio sites, a rather logical inference can be made: traffic increases greatly in the summer. That might account for such large improvements lately. Still, the % increase for SSA is better than almost every other site across the board. Actually it is more of a light jog, I have bag in hand so full stride is hard to do. And you are probably right, much of the traffic increase is similar to colleges letting out for the summer. But I hope the improvements and additional links and such are part of it too. Oh, I have no doubt that there have been major strides made on this site in the last 6 months. Do you recognize anything here? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiele/Small#External_links nice!!!!

  22. what do you like that you can't make?
  23. Seas Nextel http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...roducts_id=1596 or the more budget friendly aluminum coned version http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...products_id=818 or the Peerless exclusive http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...roducts_id=1604 The Nextel is probably the all around best, the L18 will have better midbass than the Exclusive which will have a clearer midrange. Also no nasty upper frequency breakup with the Exclusive (at least compared to the L18).

anything that brings you to AZ? It would. It went pretty well but will probably have to wait until the 1st of the year.
