  1. KISS principle should dominate. If you can't do simple right, complicated will be a major fail. Center channels in a "stereo" setup are stupid unless you have a huge collection of music recorded in surround. That or you watch movies. If it is panned monophonic then fine, go ahead and even add rears.
  2. Dude, you can't even wire an amp. Going to a three way active is only going to sound like shit. You have to learn to tune before it will help. If you actually want to learn like you say, you HAVE to do a 2 way first. Otherwise you will never learn. Way too many knobs to turn and you need to turn them all to make it work.
  3. Yay, my dad let some jackhat take $180 and then take his computer over last night to fix it. I seriously don't fucking get it. He isn't allowed to install software since he fucks up his PC so bad once a year it needs a format. I install anything for him remotely. Now I guess it is time for all new credit cards, passwords etc.
  4. Nothing worse than watching someone you care about die
  5. I just don't get it, how could a mechanic who was working with this car, actually "every mechanic they had" not be able to figure this out. And not only that, they told me the motor was done, basically swap it or sell the car for parts. My Mom told me two weeks ago to sell it to the guy that offered 750 she was done with it and didn't want it weighing on her mind. I told her not to worry about it I would see what I could do and if I couldn't figure it out I would. She was very happy to see me pull up in it.ncc works as an installer. You found the mechanic version of him.
  6. If I were putting $1600 into a front stage it sure the fuck wouldn't be an $800 amp and 2 sets of $350 components. Can't think of a worse way to spend it actually. $800 amp $700 comps $100 installation BOO! And even if you were nutso and had $3200 and put $1600 more into the installation it'd still be a far cry from what you should do.
  7. Better ways to spend your money
  8. Good luck J!
  9. Ported enclosures usually require more internal volume AND a port.
  10. The PWX is NOT capable of playing ANY midbass. It will REQUIRE a 3 way. 3 way active installations are not trivial. And no way in fucking hell can you pull one off even reasonably with amplifier crossovers.* *excluding amps that have full built in digital processors
  11. Obviously misled via either a shitty shop, following morons on SMD or the like. And seriously USS Voyageur you do NOT want a 3 way front stage. It'll suck donkey dick.
  12. Bad, good, who cares? They don't fit your application AT ALL. Anything misused sucks donkey, so for what you want to do yes they suck donkey.
  13. Shit Neal, that sucks
  14. Best and only proven method to avoid deer is to pay attention to the road.
  15. Worrying about louder and small enclosure are effectively opposites. Biggest gain you can make is to port that enclosure. If it is ONLY sealed then play with orientation and location of said box.
  16. You don't need an external crossover. Port can also fire directly into the cabin from a trunk car.
  17. Diffraction requires either a lot of engineer, trial and error or luck. Could also run 3 way in the car and 2 way out. I do think it is time to revisit or at least restate your goals. One situation or the other is a major compromise.
  18. 1) The cap ONLY helped your headlights and could have hid faults that could have hurt your amp. Lucky. 2) Doubling of power is "audible" however you are also changing cars. Comparable would be a possibility if the enclosure and such are optimized.
  19. Muddy has nothing to do with ported/sealed and everything to do with an install/design issue. I didn't ask you to model what you think is a box and compare, but the recommended. Modeling and using some generic "optimal" setting will only give you fail.
  20. Awesome? Seriously? Low standards there...
  21. what make year and model? also what steering wheel module? 01 buick century. i'll be doing a tablet install and i have a unit that taps of the steering wheel controls. Is that a bus or resistive? hopefully resistive? not sure, just bought the joycon unit and assumed it will work From the diagram it looks like it is a bus. There is a bus converter to Joyconn though. I don't remember the name as that part I haven't bought yet. I'll need one myself.
  22. It is the fucking bomb
  23. Seriously you should NOT do a 3 way active. It will sound horrid. Way too much confusion and knobs to turn. Don't do it. Do a 2 way first, master that and then up grade. You also should NOT use a processor that you cannot adjust from the headunit. It will make your learning process 10x as long. The miniDSP has all sorts of other limitations in a car and noting from your wiring on the previous install this can easily be catastrophic. A miniDSP is only a 2way x-over btw. You'd need 2 of them. Do yourself a favor. Compare the 93x analog to digital broadcast. It will make you not want the HD...
  24. Those might be the grossest chips I've ever had. Tried some last night.I am pretty sure it is a southern thang. You can mix fried food with ANYTHING. I like and understand chicken & waffles, but the shit they put on those chips is garbage and disgusting.
  25. You CAN'T handle a 3 way active. 2 way is going to be hard on you as it will sound worse than a stock comp set for months. No amount of electronics is going to help that as you need to train your ears. I still don't understand your fascination with HD radio either. You want SQ. Fuck radio and HD is almost always worse. What is the purpose?
