First time here. Looks like quite an interesting site -- I got a lot of reading to do

I have a 1968 Camaro that I have a custom system in. I have 2 JL 12" subs in the trunk right now, that are just in a standard sealed box. I am wondering what the best setup would be for my subs.

Do I want to keep a sealed box? Do I want a ported box? Do I want them facing away from the passengers or towards them? I have them facing away currently -- as that is what I was always told to do, but then again I see some people mounting their subs inward.

Any advice would be great, thanks.

What are you looking for out of your system? Do you want loud bass? Or do you want Sound Quality? or do you want both?

As far as how you want them facing.. that is entirely car dependent. It changes based upon how the car is built, so thats something you'll have to test and see what sounds best.

I don't have any pictures of my current setup, I will take some tomorrow morning though. It's a bit late to take them right now

For the amps I have an e4300 powering the 4 speakers and a e1400D powering my subs.

I am running all of this through an Alpine CDA-9856 deck

This car is my everyday driver, I'm only 18 years old -- me and my dad rebuilt this car when i was 13-14 -- and I drive around a lot with a lot of friends, and we like to listen to our music -- like any young person does. We listen to mainly rap/hip-hop, some rock, and anything modern or basically, on the radio. I want to be able to get a nice clean sound from it without making all the parts in my car rattle, because as you know Camaro's back then weren't exactly built sound-tight.

I would like an even mix of sound quality and loud bass. Probably lean more towards sound quality because if you get too much bass in an old car, it tends to bring out the rattle

Nice car. Do you have a budget or are you going to stick with the gear that you currently have?

I would prefer sticking with the gear I already have. I just dropped a few grand on my new motor, so yeah, my budget is fairly tight right now

Besides, I would rather replace my current speakers than my subs anyway.

In that case, I'd definitely recommend putting those in a ported box (if you want more output). That isn't a ton of power, nor drivers capable of dealing with a ton of power but should be able to move a lot more air in a ported enclosure. Most likely in that car firing towards the trunk will yield the most output.

The only question now really comes down to what frequency to tune the ported box too. My guess is that you are more interested in output considering your music choices so I would probably recommend that you tune fairly high perhaps in the 36-38hz range. Musically it would be more accurate lower, but I think the output you probably crave will be easier to get with a high tuning.

Let's say in a few months after I recover from the $6900 i dropped into my new motor I do decide to upgrade my gear. What would you suggest for a car like mine? Not the most expensive, but quality stuff.

You pretty much have to build your own, or hire someone to build to your specifications.

There are a ton of quality options it will really depend on your budget. I would encourage you to have a box built and then tell us what you don't like about it. It will give us a much more clear path to help you select new gear.

Your $6900 comment has me dying to ask what you built for a motor as well as any other things you have done to your ride.

Well about a month ago we built a 383 Stroker to swap with the 350 that was in it. It's pushing about 450hp with 470lbs torque. At the same time we swapped the old TH400 tranny with a 700r4.

Other than that, we basically did everything to it, I mean, it was honestly just a shell when we got it:

I'm confused. Where are your marker lights? '68 was the first year for them.

I didn't put them on, I think the side marker lamps are rather ugly on the old camaros
