Posted July 31, 200718 yr The other day when Mark and I were talking about his new model subs, he suggested he send me one of his new prototype drivers, the Mach 5 SPL 12. I got this sub in this weekend and had a chance to look over it and install it, and throw some real power at it (above 2.5kw, per his request). This will be Mach 5 audio's first real SPL dedicated subwoofer, and from what ive observed this weekend, I only wish they had them in 18's First off, here are the pictures of the driver. The first thing I noticed about this driver is the heafty weight of the assembly, it comes in at 54 lbs  The basket is a standard 12 spoke style, however its been machined and milled which gives it quite a different look than the rest of the competition. The mounting flange on the top of the sub is also spun alumnium, which I really like and gives the mounting of the sub a solid strong aspect since the focus of this design is pure SPL.The sub was put into my girlfriend (and teammates) vehicle, a 2001 Cavalier. While this isnt exactly the best vehicle for SPL, it did provide a good platform for observing daily useage vs. SPL only. The enclosure itself is a 42 hz tuned dual aeroport box that's main design was for MECA Amature class which means no resins or superstrong structure materials were used. Normally she uses a Stereo Integrity Magnum 12 to compete with (and daily beat as well), so we direct swapped the Mach 5 SPL 12 out with it, and put the two subs side to side for a visual comparison. The tests were done with one Adassa Warlord 5kw. Measurements were taken by a termlab at the head, since no competition organizaion besides Usaci does kick measurments anymore (and who cares about USACi anyways ) so remember head scores are harder to attain a higher score at than at the kick. Her highest score was 142.6 on a 41 hz burp, and 141.9 on music, which isnt shabby for a single 12" sub in a amature class enclsoure. Now remember, MECA requires anyone thats in amature class not to have resins or structural reinforcement to the box and must play music... so please remember this when considering this information. Here are a couple of pics of the metering, and the video as you can see, the 142.6 score was on a burpThis score was screen captured after a peak hold session for 30 seconds on lil' jon's crunk juice CD, track 1.and here is the video.... enjoy .... oh and if the bass in the video sounds a bit odd, its because the aeroport was firing directly on the camera's microphone. sorry. Id like to thank Mark for letting me test drive this driver. I completely enjoyed evaluating it.
