O.K. I currently have 2 jl 12w6d4 in a slot ported box designed to jl specs and I am thinkin of getting 2 mach5 15's. The jl's are being ran off a 1000/1 and hit well but I kinda want more spl. I'm not totally into spl but listen to a lot of rap/r&b. I have a guy wanting to buy my current setup along with my 300/4 so I will be starting over with sundown amps as well. Vehicle is 07 escape with front/rear consisting of memphis m series comps in front and rear 5x7's. If I run the 15's in a ported box on a sndwn 1000D will I lose a lot of SQ? I listen to some rock/alternative music on occasion. BTW, my HU is a pioneer 7800 and I have a kinetic 800 as a second battery in the rear with 0/1 ran back from the front. I am trying to stay fairly inexpensive. Sorry if I'm babbling, but wanted to give as much info as possible so I could get help with my dilema. Any other ideas are welcomed!

Pretty hard to upgrade over those 12w6's. If you want more output it surely can be done, but get ready to have a bigger enclosure. The real question now is how much space can you give up and what will your budget be. And yes, the Mach5's are a step down from the w6 but you can say that about most subs. The w6 IMO is by far JL's best sub and might be the best mainstream sub you can buy in my book.

I guess I should add what space I have to give up. The dim. are 40"w x 14"h x 24"d ......I don't know anything about boxes. The height could change but I'd like to keep the use of the cover. As far as the budget, I'd like it to be no more than $1500 for subs/box/and amps. Really would like to stay around $1000 but would go more for accuracy.

Yeah, v2's, got em both for $400. The shop I had put them in and build the box sells memphis and he's trying to talk me into m3's. I've been outta the loop since early 90's after marriage (divorced now)and I'm curious about new brands. JL was the chit back in the day, but been reading the forums here and see a lot of other stuff is out. So should I just look for another JL or 2?

O.K. I guess I should really ask, if I'm not gonna get any if much better with the mach5 15's, what 15's should I go with? Once again, I want more spl without giving up a ton of sq.The enclosure would be about 6-8 cubes and ported. I know a lot of ppl will say fi, but any other suggestions would be appreciated. I wang!!!

I'll throw out a non FI suggestion, AudioQue HDC315's, but you'll need more than a single SD to power them unless it's a 3000D. 8cubes @ 35Hz would sound very good for music and get stupid loud/low. At least they do in my car....

Anything AQ would be giving up a ton of SQ compared to a W6V2, if he's dealing with anything acoustic or demanding...

2 RE XXX 15s

back again.....so I got a guy wanting to buy my current setup ($2,000.00) LOL, and now I'm thinking 2 15" icons with a sndwn 1500D in a ported enclosure tuned to spec suggestions. The question is will the icons be more of what I'm used to in SQ with that nice increase in spl? I measured out the back of my truck again (07 escape) and I could go 40w x 24D x 16 or 17 H....keeps it at rear windows. Never built an enclosure and don't have the tools, but will those dim. give me enough cubic feet to make them happy thanks for the help!!

thats personal opion on the subs tho. marks 2 15 incon setup as great SQ and when needed can do some SPL

with either icons or meg will sound great but box will say a lot also.

yeah, I almost laughed when he offered the 2k!! So do the dim. I gave come close enough to the suggested box recommendations? I know driver displacement/double baffle/vent or port will cause the internal dim. to be close. What would suggestions be for tuning--port or vent ? I'm thinking 28-30hz for low end nastiness I've only had slot vented but I'm curious about flarred.

You kinda want more SPL in your first post and now you want to tune to 28hz. You do realize those two things don't really agree with each other right?

I guess not, still kinda new. I guess I should do the higher freq. of 33hz or even 35hz like the Santa Fe video then. Sorry for the inconsistency, but everyones opinion and patience is appreciated.
