Posted August 21, 200718 yr I have been shopping a bunch of different subs to upgrade to. I have locked my budget to 450 MAX. I have been looking at 4 12" type r's. Just recently, I got more interested in 2 15 type r's. Now I am between the 2 15 type r's and an aa havoc 18. I will be running small sealed- 4 cu ft. right now, probably get another cube with a few mods to my box. I have 4 10" mtx thunder 5500 at this time, and I listen to mostly rock/metal, 70's,80's and a lot of Pink Floyd. I want: 1) better low freq extension, 2) keep the tightness that I have right now 3)more spl. I have an saz1500d for power. Any honest opinions/recommendations plz? Pricing:4 12 type r: 440 shipped2 15 type r:410 shipped1 havoc 18: 369 shippedAny help would be appreciated!
August 21, 200718 yr Author Also on the table is the RL-p 18, and any other sq 18's that would fit in a small sealed box. Thanks again Edited August 21, 200718 yr by cx-7heaven
August 21, 200718 yr Author Money isn't the highest priority, sq is. I would prefer to have a high quality sub and pay a bit more than have an unknown sub. Thanks(can't spell today ) Edited August 21, 200718 yr by cx-7heaven
August 21, 200718 yr The type R's are a joke if your priorities are where you say they are. Get the Rlp and enjoy!
August 21, 200718 yr Author Ok, this is the kind of stuff I need to know, as I'm unfamiliar with any of the products. So you think the rl-p over the havoc? Has anybody even bought a new havoc 18 yet? Thanks
August 21, 200718 yr Admin I have yet to hear one, how ever I saw the assembly line of them last weekend, picked it up and played around with it some. They are are not messing around over there at AA, extremely well built sub. Great motor assembly. Can't wait to hear one.
August 21, 200718 yr Author I'm really leaning towards it, it is so damn sexy!! The price seems right as well, especially for what you get!
August 21, 200718 yr Admin don't want you to think i'm pushing this sub, but I really thought it was sexy too. I would buy some myself, but im out of room as it is
August 21, 200718 yr Admin lol, SSA is not allowed to make deals on the AA lines. Prices are as marked. Not bad prices what so ever I don't think for the quality you get!
August 21, 200718 yr Money isn't the highest priority, sq is.What's your limit?Depending on if you want to keep your current box or not, I'd probably get four 10" Rainbow Vanadiums and be done with it. Generally, on the kind of music you said you liked to listen to, making your substage louder without a corresponding change in the front stage is going to make things sound bad...
August 22, 200718 yr Author Hey jimj, actually, I got my front stage covered too. I'm running alpine type x 6.5 comps right now, but have a set of diamond d971 under the bed, waiting for a home;). My thinking parallels yours
August 22, 200718 yr No offense, but you're comparing a known SQ sub like the RL-p versus an unknown AA Havoc. Nothing against the Havoc, but I haven't heard anyone complain about the RL-p. There's a reason why audiophiles like Sean (///M5) enjoy the SoundSplinter subs.
August 22, 200718 yr Author Yeah, good point. But I have heard some AA stuff in the past, and that havoc just looks like a lot of fun! Also, I just bought the havoc, so there will be a review up soon!!
