Posted September 11, 200718 yr Well, I can't quite figure out how to make Winamp do this. I want to be able to have it random shuffle through albums, and then play through the album in order...and then once its finished with that album to move to another random album. Winamp seems to let me randomize from all the files, not really useful. Are there are players out there that can support this? And if you recommend Foobar, I want a link to something that's already configured
September 11, 200718 yr I don't know of anything off the top of my head... Best advise I could give would be to manually randomize the albums. Slow, tedious, and not really what you're looking for, but it's all I can think of at the moment. If you're not needing this right away, you're using Windows, and all your files are tagged correctly, I could probably write a small app to modify an existing playlist like this, and then you would just play it without shuffle on.
September 11, 200718 yr Author That wouldn't even work, because the way Winamp's media library seems to be set up, once an album is selected it will only play through that album until you manually select another. And I'd really want to keep the albums in order, so I can go to one at a glance without having to use the search box all the time.
September 11, 200718 yr Foobar. I'll put together a simple configuration how-to when I get some time.
September 11, 200718 yr What version of WinAmp are you using? Select the album, select the tracks, and then "Enqueue". You would just have to play them in order to keep the albums together.

September 11, 200718 yr Has to be a way in Foobar, but I imagine it is less than straightforward. Once I move I will "get" to play around more with my pc as well. I look forward to the response Neil! Then I just have to link my remote to Foobar and I will be happy.
September 15, 200717 yr Hey Jim,I was just taking a look at Foobar for a quick second. The default setting for album sorting (Preferences>Advanced) is good enough. On the upper right hand side (or lower right hand side), there is the order selector, where you can choose Default, Repeat (Playlist), Repeat (Track), Shuffle (Albums), Shuffle (Directories), Shuffle (Tracks). If you select Shuffle (Albums), it will play through one album, then move to a random album and play through that one, then move to another random album, etc. The only catch is that if you're listening to the last track of an album and press the Next button to skip to the next track, it will play the first song of the album that directly follows the one you're listening to.The Shuffle (Albums) function is still kind of linear and works best when you have a lot of albums in there. For example, when I have 5 or 6 albums in the playlist, it plays 2 or 3 albums in the order they are in the playlist rather than shuffling. However, when I load a bunch more, it gets pretty random.
September 18, 200717 yr Author Now I just need a way to make ColumnsUI look pretty Some amazing skins out there.
