Now that you have an H701 I would lean a little more towards raw drivers than ones for particular car usage. It is hard to beat the Peerless SLS for 250hz and down and some midbass that can wallop you a bit.

i got a buddy with a set of brand new SLS-8"s the 830667 model, wants 100$ for them, cheap enough i can just pick them up and try them out..

is the sls8 one of the better choices simply from the xmax? specs compared to others arent entirely alot, i havent dealt with raw drivers very much other then powering them with a A/C outlet for fun :biggun:

what should i look for compared to the SLS8?

I do believe Madisound only has one version in stock... the 8 ohm version, black cone.

for tweeters, seeing as i have heard only a small handfull of any of these before, which has the best overall output? im looking for a warmer sound, such as a silk, as opposed to any metal domes.. ive noticed a few tweeters around 150$ as opposed to 40-60$ where is the difference in price justified? i feel like a noob all over again =(

Worth it, sort of. Considering your history I'd buy the Seas first and if they didn't do it for me sell them and upgrade. You can probably sell them for more than 80% of what you pay for them...cheap insurance.

Can't wait to see this complete, will there be a worklog?

  • Author

yes i will make a worklog, unfortunately i dont know when il be getting the install initiated, work is getting busy during season and my classes are nearing finals!

imo if u want a 3 way system and use 8's in doors. look into the dls 8" iridiums or the IR 8.3's 3.3" mid range and a very shallow 8" midbass that does exceptionally well ib in doors. very shallow like under 3" i believe. and beautiful set of tweets. crossovers they provide are great. and without them they shine even more....

also look into some hertz audio comps or hybrid audio 8's with hybrid l3 with choice of tweet.

personally i like diy so i would buy......

7" L18RNX Seas or 8" Peerless exclusives

Paired with a seas 27G alum tweeter

all this topped off with some 4.5 Seas Excel W12CY Midranges or 4.5" Scan Speak Revelators =]

Should be killer setup for a diy

actually i already picked up my equipment, thanks for the tips though.. but imo DLS is just not worth the money, or atleast the iridiums.. not my favorite speaker, but to each his own
