ive got a spare MJ 4 ohm laying around and i got to thinking...let throw this into the HT system. ive never messed with ht tho so im starting from the beginning. we have an Arcam reciever amp, and tuner. so my first quetion is...how do i hook everything up? is it ..sub to plate amp, and then using RCA's connect the (reciever or amp?) to the plate amp? and does the plate amp plug into the wall?

secondly..what kind of box setup should i be thinking of? what would be ideal? IB or ported...this will be mostly for music and occasionally a movie or 2. probably 98% music 2% movies...if i went ported...what kind of volume and tuning should i aim for?

thanks in advance

Doesn't sound like this is home theater at all...not with 98% music anyway.

I'd recommend a sealed enclosure for a single MJ, that way you could get a very flat response and good low end extension, if you had the budget for more I'd say go IB with them.

well not a home theater system...more like a loud system in my home. but im lookin for output from my 18"...wouldnt ported be a better way to go? maybe tuned to around 6 cu ft around 33 hz? or maybe im just still in car audio mode...

What kind of music?

Remember that you're not going to get a cabin boost of the low frequencies at home like you would in a vehicle.

i listen to everything from rap to rock to jazz. but id say the majority is rap. what would you recommend tuning to?

28Hz isn't "very low", not in a home anyway...

But it should work for you.

As Jim suggested, 28-30Hz will be fine for music in the home. You can use 4.5 cubes and get that nice punchy sound the MJ produces.
