I'm looking to upgrade my sub and I have no way to hear either of these subs personally, give me your opinion please. I have a 94 Mazda 626, amp is a Kicker SX1250.1 birthsheet at 1420 watts. I'm looking at either:

a 15" Fi BL with cooling

a 15" Fi Q with bp power

a 15" Ascendant Audio Havoc.

I think I can get a 4 cu ft net box tuned to about 28-32 Hz into the trunk. The other question I have is that I think I have about 17" clearance under the parcel shelf. Is that enough room to get a box in that would fit a 15"? If it's not is there a problem with facing the sub up or should I stick with a 12" version of the sub?

Also please let me know why you would pick the sub you chose.

Thanks. :canflag1:

Well I'm looking to improve on what I've got (check sig) I listen to predominantly rock but do mix in some rap. Hoping to go louder but keep it fairly clear

What are you looking for in terms of output...

SQ or SPL?

what kind of substage are you looking to implement in your vehicle..

That's a couple of the questions I'm looking for, other than that what do you mean? I'm looking for an upgrade on what I have. I'm hoping to get more output and fair SQ Just looking for opinions I have no way to hear any of these personally. I know customer service for both are top-notch, if one had better CS than I would probably pick that one for that fact. I've had my eye on all three of these for some time and want some opinions from people who have heard these subs

LSQ my ears aren't too picky but I don't want something that sounds horrible just to get slightly louder. Hoping to get more output than my Infinity's at about 700 watts give me but still sound good.

I can only tell u about one of the subs you have in questions which is the BL...

I run a 15 pretty decent sub...

Gets loud and doesn't sound bad doing it...

Good ground pounder I would say..

You keep using upgrade but haven't described what you don't like about your current setup. Everything is relative...

So until you explain what you don't like about what you currently have a big what do you mean is all we can ask. After 5 posts we get that you want it louder, is that all? If so, all of the above will do that.

OK, I'm sorry I didn't explain myself better. Yeah, louder is one thing I would like but I'm also hoping for better SQ. the infinity's are great at low to moderate volume but if I push to hard they start to sound muddy and they can't keep up on songs that have fast bass drums ( like Disturbed or Metallica 'One'). They aren't too bad on songs that don't have complicated bass. Does that explain it better?

Also I haven't been able to find box specs for the Havoc, could you let me know what size and tuning they recommend? I've leaning toward the Q for a while but with the new havoc line out I'm questioning it. And about the clearance issue will a 15" sub fit in a 17" high box made out of 1" wood or is it OK to have the sub facing up in a trunk car?

To get louder and maintain a nice response it usually means cone area, luckily the Inf are neither loud nor good sounding. A 15" Q would be a huge upgrade, but won't be the loudest driver you listed. As for the 15 on a 17" box with 1" walls, it will fit but you could also surely slant the front wall to gain an inch or so.

what are the recommended box specs for the 15" havoc? Ive had a post in their manufacturer forum and still haven't got an answer.

  • 3 months later...

15" Havoc... is Fi, so follow their Q, or BL line specs for boxes.

Ascendant audio's web is down... or not ready quite yet...

I'd say 3-5 cubes.... If you want SQ, sealed....if you want more output, port it at about 32-34 hz.

Havocs are great subs, their just still very new... so thats why not too many reviews. but like I said its Fi now, and thats all you need to know.

Another great choice would be an sound splinter RL-p 15".... very SQ oriented, but loud as well...

I don't know where all the 12" sub votes are coming from. You seem to want a 15" and have the space for it so... Go for it!
