1) on my second computer, the ethernet card says it's working, yet we can't get online. we compeltely restored it about two weeks ago, i've upped my dsl to 3mbps down, 768up and at first the computer worked fine. (we had to retore it due to the exact same problem) now, it's not letting the computer log on. says it can't find or refresh the network address. says to contact the network admin or ISP. how do i fix this?

2)where does one find movies to download? like the ones that just came out or aren't out yet?

Have you tried right clicking on "Local Area Connection" and selecting "Repair"?

yep, that's how i got the "can't renew IP address. contact network admin or ISP"

just call your ISP, they will step by step you thru re-newing your IP or figuring out w/e is wrong with it. it's happened to me a few times. at least once a year. i currently use bellsouths 6mb dsl and everytime i have an issue i just call them up.

you could try this..

have your modem pluged directly to the computer.

click start>run>type CMD>hit OK

when command prompt comes up type IPCONFIG

locate the IPaddress.

then type IPCONFIG /RELEASE

then type IPCONFIG /RENEW

then type ping yahoo.com

if no bytes are lost then your connection should be re established, if not.

turn off the computer, reset the modem(by the buttom on the modem) then turn computer back on after a few minutes.

if that doesn't work then just go ahead and call your isp.

they will most likely make you run thru what i just said.

edit: oh yeah and for movies.. learn to use torrent and search for good torrent sites. :)

ok, tried the cmd part...won't connect to ping. computer is hooked directly up to modem/router combo. still can't get it to connect.

call your ISP.

they should be there on sundays. i've called mine and linksys on sundays no problem.

As far as question two goes.. Torrents are ok, but there has been a recent crackdown on that kind of file sharing.

I'd go the Usenet Route. It has a monthly fee associated with it, but its less than half of what you'd pay for a NetFlix membership. And you'll be getting advance release DVD's and Screeners.

Not to mention the other goodies that are on there.

Since you have two pc's are you using a router or two modem's?

First, of course shut everything off, turn on the modem first, and then boot everything else up. Always good to reset evertyhing when running WinSuck.
